I sighed. I never knew he liked me like that, I always thought of him as a close friend. I bet I've broken his heart. I grimaced, I couldn't think of what I had done to poor Alex, and so I looked out the window instead.
It was usually cold in Birmingham, even for mid-July. Stupid British weather being so unpredictable.
I gasped when my eye caught a guy slumped against the wall. My heart sped-up when I realised the guy was Alex.
"ALEX!" I screamed, running downstairs and forcing the door open with a brutal force.
I kneeled in front of his pale sleeping body, I could tell that he had minor hypothermia, the symptoms were all there, pale cold skin, shivering, exhaustion.
"Alex! No!" I picked him up leaving his stuff where it is for now, and rushed him to my room, my heart beating with worry every second that passed.
I laid him on my bed and pulled our shirts off. I hugged us close hoping to give him back some heat. I suddenly had the urge to kiss his pale blue lips, but I ignored it and pulled him as close as I could, stroking his soft hair.
"I'm so sorry Alex. I didn't mean for this to happen. I-I'm sorry" I whispered, constantly stroking his hair.
It hurt so much, knowing that I made him do this. That I was the reason for all his pain. I wanted to cry, but I knew I had to be strong for him.
I heard a key turn in the door as mum came back from work. She worked at a children's play centre on the weekend.
"Hey I'm home honey" Mum called, coming upstairs to my room. "Did you know some idiot left their stuff o-"Mum stopped mid-sentence, when she entered my room.
"What's going on son?"
"Mum, Alex has hypothermia; I'm just helping get warm again. He fell asleep outside and that is his stuff"
Mum sighed "Alright honey, shall I go bring his stuff in here whilst you warm him up?"
"Please" I replied with a smile that I saved only for my mother...and Alex.
Alex stirred in his sleep. I could tell that he knew that I was here holding him as he snuggled in further and whispered "Mm comfy Adam" I couldn't help but let one of my special smiles creep on to my face. I never told Alex that this smile was for just him and mum, he'd think It was creepy.
Mum brought Alex's stuff in and I could see his most prized possession sticking out
"Hey mum can you pass me that pink bunny please?" I asked in a calm voice, although I was deeply worried about Alex inside. Mum passed me Danny and I nestled him in Alex's lap.
I could feel heat gradually returning to Alex as his shivering decreased dramatically.
…
Alex yawned and snuggled deeper into me. He rubbed his sleepy eyes. I felt a little Aw inside. "Hey Alex"
He seemed shocked when he realised that he was in my arms. "A-Adam?"
"Shh it's ok, you fell asleep outside and got hypothermia"
He suddenly hugged me tight and started to cry "I-I thought you hated me" His voice was cracked and sore, and it sounded that he had been crying a lot.
"Of course I don't. You just surprised me" I reassured him. He continued to cry. I hate seeing him upset, so…I kissed him.
