STAIN

I dream the past, still.

My waking will asleep

under tread of phantom image

thought long dulled

to heart and ear.

Stain,

repainted, worded over,

arted, dismissed,

long banished creeps,

seeps in slit

'tween day and night.

As Lady in Macbeth

hands washed clean, in day

long done, act awayed,

unforeseen

bears blood still

on skin of nighttime eyelid.

Pooling in the fore.

No before, just after image stain,

Insidious, sly.

to belay

dream of forget.
