It was a dark and stormy night. That was the night that my life took a drastic change. I would like to say that it was for the better, but I'm not sure. I was running in the forest. I know what you're thinking. What the heck were you doing in a desolated park at night with rain! I would just like to say that I've never been afraid of the dark, and well I love rain. Besides it was much better than staying at home to only hear my parents scream at each other.

As I ran through the forest, I came upon a little boy. He had torn clothes, not to mention that he drenched from the torrential rain. He was crying. I crept closer--not wanting to scare him.

"Hey, little guy. Are you okay?" I asked softly. The boy cried harder. I moved closer and stretched out my hand towards him. He backed away from me. "Hey. Don't be scared. I'm not gonna hurt you. I just want to help you." I spoke in a soft, gentle voice. As I was about to touch him, an arrow with blue flames struck the tree, and separated me from the boy. A horrible scream echoed through the forest. I turned to find the source of it when I realized that the scream had came from the boy besides me. I looked at him to see that he was no longer crying. He was laughing, and not some sweet, innocent one either. No. This was a maniacal, evil laugh. He looked up, and a gasp escaped my mouth. His eyes! His eyes were pitch black. No color in there whatsoever. In his hands he had long, yellowish claws. His skin had turned purple and scales were starting to appear. I stepped back from him, but for every step I took back he took one forward. I was about to turn to run when more flaming blue arrows were shot. They hit the thing in its legs, arms, chest, and lastly in its head. I heard someone shout something in a strange language, and the intensity of the fire grew until it devoured the whole monster.

I didn't wait to see who had killed it. I turned around and sprinted in the direction of my house. I didn't go very far when an arm wrapped around my waist. Without even turning to look at who it was. I grabbed the arm and flipped its owner onto the ground. I didn't waste any time and ran again. Two arms circle my waist and yanked me back just when I was about to reach the backyard.

"Shut up and stay still if you want to live!" a male's voice whispered angrily in my ear. I froze, but not because he told me too. No, I froze because I saw two creatures far worse than the one I encountered in the forest knocked on the back door down. My dad came out with a bat, and my mom with a broom. Oh if they only knew what it was that stalked them.

"Please. Please save them." I begged the stranger quietly not wanting to alarm the creatures that we were here. After all, this guy was my only hope. "I'll do anything." I glance back to my parents, and saw that they were talking to the creatures. What! Can't they see that they're monsters!

"For some stupid reason only you can see them. To your parents, they appear to be human." He told me, as if reading my mind. His eyes never left the creatures. This stranger had a pained expression as if he was deciding between two horrible yet equal deaths. Finally, he came towards a decision. The beautiful stranger--because he was beautiful indeed with his short, silky, black hair, and piercing green eyes--took out two sleek, black daggers hanging from his belt, and flung them at the two creatures. My mother screamed in fear while my father looked around trying to see where they came from. I was about to run towards them when out of nowhere a dark shadow appeared behind my parents before either of them could react a sword was plunged into both of their hearts. The horrible creatures twisted the swords that were still inside of them before picking them up and flung them across the yard. I felt hot anger seep through my veins as I watched them do that. The next couple of seconds were a blur. I have no idea what had occurred. All I know is that when I was finished the creatures were being burned in blue flames, and my childhood home, where I had lived my whole life, was burning down to the ground.

"W-What happened?" I stuttered out. I tried to get up from where I was, but I fell down again.

"I don't know what it was exactly what you did. All I know is the you have to come with me. The Council will know what to do with you." the beautiful stranger informed me. I looked back at my home and nodded. What do I have to lose anyways. My parents are dead, I was never liked in my school, so no one would miss me.

"By the way, my name is Drake." he told me.

"I'm Carina," I told him as he picked me up. "What are you?"

"I'm a Hunter, and those things that you saw are called Demons. Now shut up and rest!" he said rather rudely. However, I still felt like I could trust him. With one last look at those hypnotizing, green eyes, I let darkness consume me.
