CHAPTER FOURTEEN

HARRY’S POV:-

It was around seven in the evening when we finally reached her house. I often pretended to doze off while driving, just to scare Hayley. She was cute when she freaked out on me. Today was the most amazing date I’d ever had in years. I could finally say that I loved her. She was simple, yet she had that spark in her that I was dying for.

I stopped the car the moment we reached. She turned to me and tilted her head.

“Aw, wanna have some coffee?”

It was true.

I didn’t want to leave her.

“Sure.” I nodded and got out of the car along with her. There wasn’t anybody around, only the lights visible in every house. Maybe people weren’t that out going where Hayley stayed. The house where she stayed wasn’t safe for her to stay alone. I mean, anything could happen. I couldn’t let something like that happen ever.

“Damn, these keys...” Hayley said as she struggled with opening her door because of the darkness around. I stood behind her curiously looking around her house; just to see if something was weird. How could she stay alone in such a quiet place?

The door finally opened and we rushed in to escape from the cool breeze outside. As we entered I found a letter lying on the floor. I picked it up and read aloud.

“To Hayley, From James.” The rest was her address and I didn’t feel the need to read it. Hayley immediately took the letter from me and examined the envelope.

“Why couldn’t he just call?” she murmured and tore the letter open.

“Who’s this James?” I politely questioned even though millions of possibilities were going through my head.

“My brother, harry.” She said and unfolded the paper. I smiled remembering my last encounter with Hayley's brother, when we were caught sleeping together. I wondered if first impression was really the best, because I had terribly ruined my first impression in front of Hayley’s bro.

Hayley’s eyes scanned the piece of paper when I realised something was wrong.  Her eyes were slowly filling up and she held a shocked expression on her face.

“Hayley, is everything—“

“Nothing!” she rubbed the tears from her eyes. “They’re just too mean to me now.” she let the letter fall down and I caught it before it touched the ground. She walked away, leaving me alone with the letter in my hands. I decided to read it.

“Hayley, I know you’re life’s hard enough as your living away from mom and dad but there are just a few things that might...probably make it worse. I was at their home last night when I found divorce papers lying around on dad’s table. my heart broke when I went through them. Hayley, I didn’t want to keep this away from you but—mom and dad are officially going to get divorced. I honestly don't know why, they aren’t telling me yet. I swear, they aren’t even fighting, I don't know what’s wrong. All I know is that the divorce papers weren’t fake. I called your house but no one picked up, lost your mobile number, so I sent this mail.

Need your help.

James.”

Crap. This was bad.

“Hayley..” I went to the kitchen only to find her sobbing by the sink. Her face had turned an unusual red which I hadn’t ever seen before. I tried to make her stop crying by rubbing her back. No, this was worse than that. It reminded me of the time when my parents were getting divorced. Of course, I was young and it didn’t affect me much but I always knew that I didn’t have my real dad around. Hayley was going through a lot now and I had absolutely no way to help her. I felt hopeless.
