The drive into New York City was congested as we arrived during rush hour. The up to being a Vampire, was not getting sleepy and tired while driving wasn't possible. They'd arrived in the shortest time.

Leaning out the window, I couldn't help but let my jaw drop at the tall sky scrapers and groups of people moving back and forth.

"Is it that impressive?" Gaius asked.

I pulled my gaze away from the outside, and looked at Gaius. "What? It isn't for you?"

He shrugged, "Congested traffic, polluted air, and too many people. All cities are the same."

Crossing my arms, I settled back in my seat. "Well aren't you a Debbie downer."

"Debbie-Downer?" He repeated, "Hah, that's one I haven't heard in a long time."

I held back the urge to kick his chair, it was strong but I fought it. And turned my attention back to the view outside.

After navigating through the traffic, we arrived in front a stone brick house. Gaius pulled up on the side of the rode, parking he sighed rolling his shoulders. "Finally."

Seeing the way Gaius rolled his shoulders and muttered under his breath, I couldn't help but pick on him. "Grandpa are you okay?"

He growled, and muttered something about immature brats. I ignored this in favor of getting out of the car and breathing in some city air. Standing on the sidewalk, I couldn't help notice the neighborhood wasn't exactly the lower-income. Some people even had their fancy car parked outside.

Which I had heard wasn't a great idea in the city. Hearing the door shut to car behind me, I turn around and stretched. "So, you got the keys to this dump?"

Gaius lifted pair of keys, and nodded.

Whooping, I followed behind him up the stairs that lead to the main door, and did a silly dance waiting for him to open the door.

He rolled his eyes at her behavior and pushed the door open, entering the house behind him I whistled at the lay out.

"Phew, well this place definitely has Big mama all over it."

It was fully furnished, with furniture that seemed to have come right out of an Ikea magazine. The dark wood, and gold contrast in the paint on the wall gave the opening foyer a warm autumn feel.

I couldn't help but appreciate Anaea decorative touch. Gaius just shrugged, "Well, Dad and mom come up here during the fashion weekend so mom can go shopping."

"Uh-huh," I quickly did my walk through from kitchen that was good sized, and elegant with marble tops. I winced at the idea of cooking in here, walking out I continued my perusal. Feeling giddy, I rushed up the stair to the upper floor.

Stopping when I came to a room, where the door was open. Light spilled in the room wide window that actually held a seat. I grinned, the wall paper was old fashion with its flower printing but it was quirky as it worked with the bed and the desk that was pushed against the wall.

"Serin!"

Hearing Gaius shouting, I rushed back downstairs. Stopping short when I saw the large box, "Um, you didn't call me so I could help carry that?"

Gaius lifted the large box easily from the lower floor, and tossed at her. Catching it, I frowned down at him. "Dude?!"

He shrugged, "It's your crapt brat, plus you do remember we are trying to keep a low profile." He reached in his back pocket and pulled out a large envelope, and waved it. "That's the whole point of the fake Id's."

Rolling my eyes, I rushed upstairs and sped back down, slowing down once I hit the door I walked the rest of the way out to the car, grabbing my bags I walked like lady back inside.

Gaius watched me, leaning against his own boxes. "Ah, look at that she can actually work."

"Shut up!"

I snapped, as I ran back upstairs with my stuff.

 "So here we are."

I spoke quietly, staring at the front of the shop I would be taking over. It was on the upper-eastside of Manhattan. The front was boarded up the, while the sign above was crumbling.

I turned my head, and looked at Gaius who was looking over the store as well. "How long has it been since you've opened this thing up?"

He cleared his throat and didn't say anything, stretching his arms back and forth he walked forward. "Hrm, lets open this thing shall we?"

I watched him my eyes narrowed, before something occurred to me. "You knew it was like this, didn't you?"

He sighed, as he pulled out the keys. He dawned a pained expression, "It might have been closed early sixties...late thirties." He added the last part under his breath.

"The thirties?!" I exclaimed, shocked.

With a loud wrenching noise, he managed to open the door. Coughing, he waved at the cloud of dust that fell down from the door jam. "Cough, cough maybe longer."

I frowned, "Do vampires cough from dust." I asked only to aggravate him.

He didn't bother to answer, and walked deeper inside the cob-wed infested time capsule. Reluctantly I followed him inside, the interior was easy to see thanks to my improved eye sight.

Walking along, my shoes crunching along as I observed the inside. Chairs were stacked here and there, while tables had been leaned against the wall. From the way the place looked to situated I could see that it had been at one point a resteraunt or... "Was this a bar?"

I turned around to ask Gaius, who'd knelt to pick up a picture frame. "What's that?"

He stood, pulling a piece of cloth from his back pocket. "To your first question, yes." He lifted his head, still wiping the glass off. Finished he turned it over and handed it to me.

I took it, only to see Gaius and the rest of the family smiling in their thirties clo. The photo was black and white.

"We thought it would be interesting to see what all the hub-bub was with the Italian mafia at the time." He spoke as he headed over to the bar counter. "Three shootings later, and we had to skip town." Hopping over the bar, he walked over to the wall that had rows shelves some had collapsed in on themselves. "But, we left behind a few things here in our rush," He glanced at me over his shoulder. "That you my friend may use to finance renovation of this place."

He reached for the top shelf, where bottles were still perfectly lined up. He smirked, "You know, there's always been something I've wanted to say..."

Looking up from the photo, "And what is that?"

His smirk turned into a big smile, "Welcome, to my...Lair~."

Shaking my head at his silliness, I stilled as I watched the wall shudder before it jutted out. Gaius quickly rushed to my side, as it continued to creak and pop before it slowly moved left. Giving view to another room.

There were several boxes here and there that were stacked against the wall. Rushing forward, Gaius grabbed one of the smaller ones, following him I grabbed another one. Opening it I gasped, "Diamonds?"

He chuckled, facing me his eyes sparkled. "Yeah," He shrugged, "We got into smuggling them around that time, can't say it wasn't fun."

I rolled my eyes, giving a look around the entire place I sat the box back down. "Well, despite the questionable back ground of the place, it should be a great flower shop." Turning to Gaius I smiled, "Right?"

He nodded, "sure is."
