Something You Have To Learn
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Hey.” The person called just smiled in reply as she chose to continue listening to the music from her headphones. “How are you?” she continued and sat down beside the long haired lad on the grassy ground.
“Same.”
“Uhm. I know we’re not that close, and we don’t talk much. But, as your club captain who’s been watching over you for quite some time now, I know that there’s something bothering you.” Her legs bends close to her chest and enveloped it within her arms. “You can talk to me, you know?”
“I’m okay.”
Atsuko sat there quietly as she listens to the feint sound that’s escaping from the tall girl’s headphones. The music may be too loud but it’s still not that loud to not hear the voice of the person talking to her. She smiled hearing the familiar sound.
“You’re still listening to that song. You must have love that.” She giggles.
Haruna just smiled sadly. Her eyes droop down against the upward push of her cheeks from a smile. The wind gently blows and rearranges the strands of their hair to hang and rest on their shoulders. It was like a silent confession of her feelings to a person she never intend to share it with. However, there was not a hint of worry or hesitation.
“Remember what I told you last time?”
“...about how magical music is?”
“Yup.” Haruna just gave a look. “It wasn’t just actually the music alone. It’s the person that pops up in your head as you hear those loud beat and enchanting rhythm. Don’t you think?”
As if struck by the words of Atsuko, the headphone was then carefully taken off and exposes her ears which are still half covered by the brunette strands of hair. “I’m glad.” She uttered.
“Hmm?”
“Humans are interesting. They’ve always been.”
The black haired girl giggled with her nose cringing. “They? You’re the interesting one. Aren’t you human?” she joked asking.
The tall girl just smiled and looked far. “Tell me more about that… about music… and the people.”
Look of worry starts to appear on her face. She was hiding it the whole time but by an unknown reason, the words of the tall girl makes her heart feels aching that even she can’t seem to comprehend. “You’ve thought of something…” her eyes glanced away and sighed silently. “There are a lot of times that I wish I know what’s on your mind. Not just because I’m the captain and should be worried but also, because I am curious.”
“Conclusions.” Haruna mumbled. “Never giving up is something that I learned all those times. I wonder… is giving up and… letting go, something you also have to learn? Or is it something that is present in humans since birth?”
“That’s deep.” Atsuko peek a glance on the girl beside her. “All things take time, I guess. Time teaches us the things we need to have to survive, be it painful or not, be it joyful or not.” She smiled. “…and letting go, there is that saying that time heals all wounds… no matter how deep… no matter how hopeless it seems.”
Bangs covers her eyes as she tilts her head up to the sky and gaze at the clouds that are freely passing by. “I wonder how many more lifetimes there is to learn that.”
