Rowans POV
The cold autumn air nipped at my ears as I walked to school. I pulled my jacket hood over my ears and turned down an ally way. I heard the familiar flutter of wings behind me.

"What is it, Castiel?" I murmured.

"Another nightmare?" He asked, walking behind me.

"Yeah. You're an angel, can't you just make them go away?"

"It's not as simple as that," He muttered, looking at the ground. "Is there anything else I should know?"

"Nope. Nothing else." I said, lying through my teeth. If I told him about what Peter said he would worry. Besides, he was probably joking. The other kids often make fun of me because they hear me talking to Castiel. They think I'm crazy.

"Um, okay. You should probably go the school now. I'll, um, see you later." He said awkwardly. He nodded and disappeared.

Over the past few weeks he had visited me on my way to school. I was scared of him at first, but he said he was my guardian angel. He said he was going to protect me until my dad came into contact.

My dad left my mum the night she got pregnant. And my mum died when I was two years old. Car crash, they told me.

Suddenly, something hit the back of my head. Another object whizzed passed my ear and hit the wall in front of me. Cursing under my breath, I spun around. Before me stood, Mackenzie and Jade, two of the older girls from the care home.

"What the hell?!" I yelled at them, touching the back of my head with my fingertips. My hair was sticky with blood.

"Where's your 'guardian angel' Rowan? Not here to protect you?" Mackenzie spat, throwing another stone at me.

"Leave me alone" I muttered, turning away.

Mackenzie rolled her eyes and put her hand on her hip. "Oh come on, Rowan. I thought a rough 15 year old like you would put up a better fight. Poor daddy will be disappointed."

I balled my hands into fists and stormed up to her. "Leave my dad out of this!" I snarled.

"That's more like it!" She said. "At least my dad visits me twice a week. Where's your dad? Oh that's right, he doesn't even know you exist!"

I slowly relaxed and turned away from her. "I can't be bothered to deal with you. You're a waste of my time."

She continued speaking "You talk in your sleep a lot. You yell at the top of your lungs 'no! leave her alone!' And 'take me, not her!'. You should probably go and see a specialist."

She began pushing up behind me, talking into my ear. "Then they can put you away in some freak asylum. You can talk to your imaginary angel and scream when you go to sleep. And eventually, you can rot in HELL!"

My mind exploded with anger. I span around, swinging my fist into Mackenzie's face. She staggered backwards but my converse had already collided with her stomach, knocking her to the ground.

"You Demon!" Jade yelled, running toward me. Suddenly, I lost control of my arms and my mind went black.

*

I blinked and my eyes came back into focus. My arm was outstretched and Jade was somehow pinned to the wall, her hands clawing at her neck. I dropped my arm, confused. Jade slid down the wall, gasping for air.

"What are you?" She croaked.

Broken glass crunched under my foot. I glanced down to see, in the broken mirror at my feet, black, soulless eyes staring back at me.
