After that incident in the dungeon, I had to go through more training before my gears were replaced and given to me again. I was sent to the boss's office for a meeting. I guess you can say I was... Close to my boss. She acts like she doesn't care that much, but she helped raise me every now and then when I was little. I walked into the office and sat down on a chair in front of her. "You asked for me Ms.Roid?" I asked as I made myself comfortable.
Elisa, Ms. Roid's given name, looked up from the papers on her desk and pushed up her glasses. "Ah Amber! You came just on time. I needed to speak with you about getting a partner."
I tilted my head, a bit confused. "A partner? I was doing well on my own..."
"After that incident in the dungeon, I beg to differ. You don't want to end up like your parents, do you?"
That sent a chill through my spine. When I was still a small child, my parents headed out into the dungeons after they received an emergency alert. Many others joined them, but only two didn't make it. My parents. According to the others, they had to split up to slay the demons coming from different corridors so that everyone else could escape safely. In the end, the demons proved they were stronger than them and took their lives. One person who went with them put up a shield so the demons would leak out until Elisa came. Once she did; the demons just disappeared.
"Can I have Vi as my partner then? We work well with each other."
Elisa sighed and set her forehead down on the palm of her hand. "Amber, Violet already has a partner. You remember Chad, right?"
I nodded quickly. There's a rumor going around that he's actually part demon, but that wouldn't make any sense. Elisa's voice took me out of my thoughts. "-- I already found you a partner."
I felt myself stiffen. "Wh-What?!"
She leaned over and shouted past me. "You can come in!"
I whipped my head back. I didn't remember anyone being there...
A hooded figure walked in and I tried to peek under his hood, trying to identity the person. It pulled its hood back and shook his brown hair into place. My eyes widened, recognizing who it was... It was the boy who saved me in the dungeons.
