Leaning against the shop counter I stared up at the clock, glaring at it as if that would make time speed up. Just five more minutes until I could get out of this insanely cozy coffee shop, and back into the wilderness where I belonged.

Ever since I realised that I couldn't get revenge on my "father", knowing how it would be for his mate too, I've had a hole in my chest.

I wanted to be his son again, but he didn't need me like I needed him. He had his own son. Yet despite knowing this, I couldn't bring myself to leave, because I felt as if being close to him in some way made me feel a little less empty.

Not to mention that Vivian had left me.

I hadn't seen her since I found my father and wasn't so keen on it either with the way that she was behaving. If she wanted to apologise she could easily find me, but right now I didn't need her drama.

My body ached as I wondered when the last time I fed was - maybe a month ago? It was really starting to show with the dark bags growing under my eyes; I'll have to go hunting today.

Finally, the stupid clock came to the 12 and it was time for me to clock off. I've really begun to get sick of the smell of baked goods and coffee despite them being my two most favourite things in the world. Too much of a good thing really can be bad for you.

Racing home, I shed my clothes quickly before jumping into a quick shower to soothe my aching muscles which were sore from being behind the counter standing all day. Most of all my face hurt from smiling fakely. I haven't been able to smile genuinely since I met him.

Shaking my head as if to shake out those thoughts, I didn't bother much with clothes and put on just sweatpants. It's time to hunt.

Slamming the front door behind me, no doubt breaking one of the hinges - or both - again, I leapt into my car and high tailed it to the nearest hunting grounds. My wolf and I have been in a mood ever since that day we finally met the love of our life...only to have him slip through our fingers a second later. My traitor of a father didn't even tell me he existed this whole time!

To think we could've been mated by now if it wasn't for him!

Angrily my car screeched to a halt at the edge of the woods, a flock of birds fleeing from the sound. I didn't even bother stripping before I shifted, effectively tearing my clothes to shreds and leaping on to whatever animal I could find.

*Time skip*

After a good couple hours of chasing and hunting animals, both my wolf and I were sated enough to remain sane for another few days but soon it wouldn't be enough.

Without our mate nothing could keep us from losing it. I dragged my furry backside to the nearest river and slowly climbed in. The once sparkling blue water tinted red with the blood on my coat.

I sighed a wolfy sigh and bowed my head when I heard a rustling not too far from here. Instantly my body tensed and lip furled into half a snarl. Someone was here.

Too light to be a wolf

Too heavy to be an animal

With a sudden spring I began soaring through the forest, my legs seminal never touching the ground as I neared the intruder. This is my territory and I don't feel like sharing.

With one last push of my hind legs, I jumped upon the intruder ready to tear them to bits when...I smelt something that I'd been craving for a long time now...

MATE!
