Katherine woke slowly. She had vague memories of being spoon fed something that tasted like her mom's homemade lemon pie. A pounding headache threatened to split her skull and the ringing in her ears didn't exactly make it better. Her limbs felt like jelly but her mind was awake and alert. Katherine could vaguely make out people talking above her but it felt like everything was covered in a layer of water, not that it was too bad, she loved water.
After a few minutes she managed to force open her eyes. The moment they were open the bright glare of the sun blinded her and She let out an annoyed hiss.
After gritting her teeth and squinting her eyes she looked down and saw her clothes. They looked like someone had gone over them with a cheese grater. The jean shorts were in tatters and her sweatshirt was missing a sleeve. Somehow, her lacy white top and jet black combat boots were spared and looked as awesome as ever.
Suddenly, Grace slammed the screen door open and burst into the cabin. She had changed into a bright orange tee that had something spelled out on the front. Being dyslexic and totally exhausted, Katherine had no idea what the letters spelled, but she could just barely make out the word, 'Camp'.
"Katherine! Are you okay?" Gracie rushed over to her side.
"Too bright." Katherine muttered. Grace grinned.
"I'm so glad you're alright, Will said you'd be okay but-"
"Hold up. Who's Will and what..." Katherine trailed off as the events in the forest hit her like a brick.
"Ounch." She muttered under her breath.
Grace blinked."What?"
"Nothing. How long was I out?"
"Two days."
Her answer sent a jolt through Katherine's body.
"Two days!? How did we escape the ogre?"
"The demigods rescued us, They defeated the Cyclops and here we are now. It provides shelter for people like us so monsters and stuff can't hurt us." She explained using vivid hand gestures. Katherine looked around the room and noticed it reminded her of the cabins in summer camp. Wooden, open and She could see the forest through the screen door. Rows of beds were lined up neatly with curtains in between so she guessed they were in the sickroom or something.
"People like us?"  Katherine raised an eyebrow.
"Demigods, Halfbloods..."
"Better let me explain." The door swung open and this man on a horse walked over to the bed she was nestled in. But when he closer, she realized that it wasn't a man on a horse, he was the horse
"I'm Chiron, a camp director." He started. Katherine tried not to be rude but she couldn't help but stare, the guy was half horse! He had brilliant white horse's legs and back. From the waist up he was human and his torso was where the horses neck would have been.
"You, my dear, are a demigod or you wouldn't have been able to enter the camp." He smiled warmly.
Katherine blinked. "Demigods?"
"Demigods are half human, half gods." He explained.
"Well now you've lost me."
Chiron smiled.
"When Greek gods fall in love with a mortal, their children are half God, Half human. Like Grace. Like you."
"Me?" She tried to keep her calm but Katherine's voice rose an octave higher.
"Yes. Who is your godly parent? What gender?" The centaur inquired.
"Mine is my mom since I only have my dad. He always said she'd left and he never wanted to talk about her." Gracie piped in.
"I don't know, I have both a mom and a dad." Katherine told him. Chiron scratched his beard thoughtfully while I explained in more depth.
"I know one of them is a step parent but I don't really know which because they never talk about it."
"Ah. Alright, we'll just wait for your godly parent to claim you." He sighed.
"Claim?" She asked. So many questions.
"You'll see when it happens."
Her head was spinning from all of the information and questions that were building up inside of her. too much thinking, and she didn't do thinking on an empty stomache.
"I'd say you look alright, but I'm no doctor. I'll have Will take a look at you later. For now though, I'll have Annabeth give you the tour." He finished. Gracie opened her mouth but Chiron beat her to it.
"You, my dear, are going back to Hermes cabin and resting until dinner."
Grace looked over with a pained expression. She was ADHD too and couldn't stand sitting still. Katherine shrugged sympathetically while Chiron ushered her out the door.
"Hermes cabin?" Katherine raised an eyebrow and he just smiled.
Just Then, a girl with tan skin and pretty blonde hair a shade darker than Katherine's ran through the door breathlessly. Her eyes were startling grey and seemed to be analyzing the perfect way to take everyone down in battle. She stood there panting for a little while before she addressed Chiron.
"You...needed....something?" She sucked in a large breath.
How'd she know?
Katherine thought.
"Could you show our newest camper around?" Chiron asked. The Annabeth girl nodded and pulled her firmly out of the comforting bed and out the door rather roughly.
"Hey!" Katherine protested and jerked her elbow back out if Annabeth's grip.
"Sorry, but I hate the sick room and Im pretty booked today. Ready for the tour?"
"Sure." She shrugged and Annabeth lead through the fields.
The camp was way to beautiful to be any ordinary summer camp. Campers hustled around sporting orange Camp Half-Blood T shirts like the one Grace had on. Luscious strawberry fields were nestled into a deep and to her left were two neat rows of typical wooden cabins. The 'typical' part stopped there though. There was a bright pink cabin that resembled a Barbie dream house and had Flower pots decorating the window sills.
The one close to it was surrounded my barbed wire and looked as if someone had barfed black and red paint all over it. Ew. Katherine did not want to be there.
There were only two others that stood out to her after that; The three big ones at the end of the rows. They connected the boy and girl god cabins in a U and They were the biggest by far. If Katherine knew her Greek gods right, they would be for Hera, Zeus and the sea god.
