She seemed to be entranced by the deep pools of my black orbs, as I was in her big brown eyes. We stared at each other for what seemed like forever, until one of her friends grabbed her hand and took her away from my sight.
Hinanap ko siya. Nilibot ko ang buong club. I didn’t stop. Until I found her sitting by the bartender’s corner. She gulped down a shot of margarita in a flash. Damn. She grew drunker and drunker as she took more shots of different alcohols. I knew that if she didn’t stop sooner, she’d have to go on a trip to the emergency room. I was about to go to her when someone grabbed my arm.
“No. Just let her be for now. When it becomes too much to handle, that’s when you go.” Nikki told me.
“Are you sure she’s still safe? She looks pretty drunk and wasted to me.” I asked her with concern.
“Trust me. That girl has a higher alcohol tolerance than me. A few shots wouldn’t knock her down so fast. Unlike how it does to me.” She said and just shrugged.
“Just be on standby near her. It would help. I’ll leave you to it, okay? I don’t want her to discover us being related. Yet.” She said. I just nodded my head and trained my gaze back to Denise who was still drinking.
I shook my head in disbelief. As I watched over her, I couldn’t help but wonder. Was it because of the heartbreak or has she been like this all along and she just hid it?
I was pulled away from my trance upon hearing the irritated voice of Denise who sounded like she was arguing with someone. Sure enough as I looked at her again, something was totally off.
Someone was forcing her. And I didn’t waste any more time. I didn’t get to think first before I acted out.
“Don’t touch my girlfriend.” I said coldly to the drunken guy who was bothering her.
“Oh. Sorry bro. Didn’t know she was taken. I’m just gonna go.” The guy said and took off running.
Denise looked at me through her half-lidded eyes and smiled.
“It’s you.” She said, still smiling as she brought up her hand on my cheek.
I gave her a weak smile.
“Thanks.” That’s the last thing she said before she collapsed in my arms.
“Geez. You’re such a handful. Hindi ko na alam kung anong gagawin ko sayo.” I mumbled in her ear.
I felt her stir and snuggled up closer to me.
“Mmmm. Don’t leave me alone. Please.” She mumbled in her sleep.
“I won’t. Never.” I whispered softly in her ear as I carried her through the crowd. I met up with Nikki halfway.
“Nikki. Please? Just let me do this. Promise. I’ll behave.” I pleaded her.
“Fine. I’ll just explain it to them later. And NO MONKEY BUSINESS. UNDERSTAND?” She told me strictly. I nodded my head.
“Good. Now go. Jus hugs and small pecks, got it?”
“I got her.” I told Nikki as I walked away.
I walked carefully through the mass of drunken people swaying into the music. Nakahinga ako ng maluwag nang makalabas ako sa club, Denise still in my arms.
I held her delicately in my arms as I walked to the car and opened it. I oh so gently placed her on the backseat then sat beside her. I placed her head on my lap after I got comfortable with my seat.
“Let’s go.” Sabi ko sa driver and we drove away. You might be wondering where we’re heading. I’m just gonna take her home. Sa HQ nila Nikki, where it’s safe. Rather than in our HQ.
I leaned down to gently stroke her cheek and place a soft kiss on her plump, luscious lips.
“Sleep tight, my gentle angel.”
