“Get up, birthday girl!” my mom yelled as she jumped on my bed.

“Go away!” I groaned as I pulled the sheets closer to my head.

“But it’s your birthday, get up,” my mom said as she yanked the covers off me.

“If it’s my birthday I should be able to sleep in,” I groaned.

“Well, your dad and I want to give you your gifts and then you’ll go for a run.”

“Why do I have to go for a run again?” I asked, the questioned sounding muffled in my pillow.

“We discussed this last night,” my mom groaned.

“Yeah, but I still see no point in it,”

“We want you to meet your mate,”

“And I highly doubt he’s running out and about at…6:30 in the morning,” I squinted at the alarm clock and ran my fingers through my hair as i proceeded to sit up.

“You never know now get up I made breakfast for my favorite child,” my mom smiled and I rolled my eyes smiling.

“I’m your only!” I yelled to her back as she walked out my room.

“Not for long,” my mom chirped.

My mom is currently 8 months pregnant and huge with my little brother. I can’t wait until he’s here; if he looks anything like our parents he’s going to be gorgeous! I trudged my way towards the shower, it’s my 18th birthday and I don’t really feel any different. I’m anxious to meet my mate I wonder what color eyes he’ll have, I’m a sucker for blue eyes. I’ve always loved them on a boy. I have boring, light brown eyes, leaving me envious of my mother’s light blue ones but at least I got her long, wavy, brown hair.

I pulled on some ripped skinny jeans and an off the shoulder t-shirt. I decided to leave my hair down seeing as it’s one of my best features. I don’t really use any make up because the sluts in our pack wear more than enough for probably 85% of the world. I ran down into the kitchen following the sweet smell of my dad’s famously delicious buttermilk pancakes.

“Hi daddy,” I squealed as I kissed his cheek, I was a complete daddy’s girl.

“Hey sweetheart, you’re getting so big,” he said as he flipped more pancakes with an excited gleam in his eye.

“I will always be your little girl,” I smiled, knowing how true that statement was.

“I know but when that mate of yours comes along I’m going to make sure he treats you right,” my dad growled as his brown eyes got darker.

“He will dad, he’s my mate, why so many pancakes?” I asked changing the subject furrowing my eyebrows in confusion.

“Oh, the alpha is coming to join us for breakfast and is going to go over some things with you since you’re now an adult,” my dad replied.

“Oh ok, where’s mom?” I asked looking around my huge kitchen.

“Right here, okay I brought gifts!” my mom said as she waddled her way into the kitchen with three boxes and two cards in her hands.

“Not yet, after the visitors leave,” my dad scolded as he flipped the last of the pancakes into a plate.

“Can she at least open one?” my mom pouted and my dad kissed her on the lips.

“PDA!” I yelled and they laughed at my outburst.

“Okay o----“ my dad was cut off by the doorbell.

“I’ll get it,” I said getting up and walking to the front door.

“Hello Alpha Flakes,” I nodded in respect to him and he smiled kindly at me.

“Hello Emily,” I held the door open as he walked through.

“Leave the door open my son will be here in a minute.”

“Okay,” I said following him into the kitchen.

“Hey John, Sarah,” Alpha Flakes shook hands with my dad and smiled at my mom.

“Hello Alpha,” my mom said politely.

“Oh happy birthday Emily!” Alpha Flakes turned and smiled at me.

“Thanks Alpha,” I said.

“Call me Chris, I keep telling you that,” I smiled at him.

“So, my dad said you wanted to go over some things with me?” I asked.

“Yes, just waiting for my son---“

“I’m here sorry,” my eyes widened at the sound of the sexiest voice I’ve ever heard and my heart started pounding in my chest.

“Okay we can get down to business,” Chris said.

Dex came around the corner and both our jaws dropped as realization hit us that we’re mates. My wolf was going crazy inside me and my heart was on hyper speed. I never looked at him as anything other than the next Alpha ever in my life but seeing him standing there now...he was gorgeous. He had beautiful light blue eyes that I loved so much already and short black hair that I would run my hands through all day if I could.

“You two have met before right?” Chris asked confused, my mom and dad were just staring in between the two of us.

“Yeah, she was in my art class,” Dex spoke first, never breaking eye contact with me.

His lips were so smooth and kissable. And the t-shirt fit him perfectly showing off what was underneath which turned me on to no end. I wanted to walk over there and rip his clothes off and have my way with him. I was surprised that thought came to mind because I’m a virgin and virgins don’t think like this or at least I haven’t thought like this. The Alpha cleared his throat and we both looked towards him.

“How about we discuss this over the wonderful breakfast John has made?” my mom asked trying to break the tension in the room.

“Sure,” I said as I sat at the table in between my Alpha and my father, Dex sat opposite me just staring.

“So as you know you’re 18 now which means you will find your mate.”

“Yep,” I mumbled.

“I need you to come to me when you’ve found him and we’ll discuss things especially if he’s of a different pack,”

“I don’t think you need to worry about that actually, he’s---“ I started but was cut off.

“I have had this discussion with my son who is not very fond of the idea of finding his mate and being tied down,” I frowned at that but I felt Dex’s eyes directly on me.

“I’m still young you act like its bad for me to not want a mate right now, if I do find my mate I will reject her,” he said looking at his plate of pancakes avoiding my gaze.

“Please don’t be like my son,” Chris said as my heart was slowly breaking.

“May I be excused?” Dex asked.

“Sure,” his father answered.

“The breakfast was great, thank you, and happy birthday Emily,” he said as he walked out the door before I could reply.

“So you going for your run?” my dad asked.

“No, I think I’m going to relax in my room for a while,” I smiled at my parents and nodded respectfully towards the Alpha as I walked upstairs.

I thought everything would be fine, that he would come back to talk to me. He avoided me like the plague. It’s like he disappeared and I had to cope with the heartbreak of being rejected.
