The next morning, I kind of felt like I was in a dream. It seemed impossible that I was in Minnesota one day and L.A. the next. I got out of bed and checked to see who was awake. It was only me. I walked quietly to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, combed out my (thankfully) straight brown hair and walked back to the room. I put on my favorite short shorts, a pink t-shirt, and some flip flops. I walked out to the kitchen and noticed that Kendall was sitting at the table reading. I felt myself red again and saw him look up. He grinned and said, "Morning Samantha." I smiled back and said, "You can call me Sam. I like it better." He laughed and grinned ear to ear. "Ok cool. So, sit down. We're gonna be living together, might as well get to know each other right?" I nodded and took the spot next to him. He swiveled towards me in his chair and said, "Alright, first things first. How old are you?" I smiled the biggest smile I'd ever given anyone. "I'm sixteen." I looked at him and noticed his big, green eyes. He returned the smile, "I'm eighteen." Of course I already knew that, but I didn't mind the extra conversation. We talked about anything and everything. Things ranging from our favorite color to our first kiss, to our favorite TV show to our favorite stores. It seemed odd that we could have gotten so close in so little time, but he was just so easy to talk to. We laughed, talked, and made jokes until everyone else woke up.

Carlos was the first one to notice his little sister talking to his best friend. I saw him look at me funny, but he continued to eat his breakfast. Mrs. Knight formally introduced me to Katie at the table and I saw Kendall smiling out of the corner of my eye. It was pretty embarassing, but I took it as the start of a future friendship. After all of us finished eating, Kendall, Carlos, Logan, James, Katie, and I sat down to watch Glee while Mrs. Knight went out to jog. I sat next to Kendall and heard Carlos call me over to the kitchen to "help with something." I got up reluctantly and followed him. He got close to me and whispered, "No offense, but why are you wearing that?" I looked down and said, "It's hot outside?", as if that were explanation enough. "Honestly, you should go change." he said, still keeping his voice low. "It's fine, really." I said.

"You're in a house full of guys..."

"And Katie."

"Still."

"What‘s the deal? You’ve never cared before…what’s changed? Tell me."

He gave me a look and said, "I don't know, but I want you to change." I stood my ground and said, "No." I walked off and took my seat back next to Kendall, leaving Carlos confused and upset.

Later on, the guys went over to Rocque Records to rehearse, leaving me and Katie alone. "So...which one is it?" she said randomly as we watched Spongebob. I laughed. "What do you mean?" She glanced at me seriously and said, "It's Kendall, isn't it?" "Wait...what about Kendall?" She smirked and said, "You like him." I couldn't help but blush. "Yeah a little...but he's dating Jo anyways so it doesn't matter...“ She smirked. "I knew it."

"How?”

"I could tell by the way you look at him.”

I couldn't help, but be shocked at this news. "Is it that obvious?"

She shrugged and smiled. “No big deal. Just remember, James…he’s mine.”

And we left it at that. Katie and I took to each other easily. Over the next couple of days, we spent time at the pool, we went to the mall, and overall: gossiped. I easily called her my sister. She told me how hard it was, being around James and he not noticing the fact that she liked him. I told her about my obsession with BTR before I showed up in Cali. She laughed so hard. "Are you serious?!" "YES! Don't laugh!" I said laughing at myself too. Katie smiled back at me and said, "I hope things work out with you and Kendall...or whoever." I grinned and said, "Me too."
