Hazel's POV

I wanted to scream , shout, and curse the world for being so damn complicated.

Who could you really trust out there?

Don't ask me. Because apparently I am an awful judge of character.

"Told you ya should've dated Danny instead."

Harley muttered under her breath.

I clenched my teeth and glared at Malcolm.

"What do you want Wright?"

His eyes held something that made no sense at all. I didn't even take the time figure it out.

I despised him. I hated him. I hated Alana. I hated Robin. And I hated myself for being so damn guillable.

"Well, for the past few months, I've been having some family issues. "

He began speaking perfectly at ease. Not bothering to acknowledge the fact that a kick-ass lawyer, a fashion designer, a billionaire, and a part-time librarian , were 100% pissed at him.

"So I decided to help my little sis out. She always needed a role model in her life."

I scowled.

"What's that gotta do with me? Was everything a lie? Just to distract me? Lower my guard?"

I was seeing red now. Couple more minutes and I'd be karate chopping this loser's face off.

"Once Alana found out what you were doing , she became, jealous I suppose is the word she-"

"Jealous? JEALOUS!? Jealous my ass! That little-"

I couldn't find the correct adjective to describe this deceitful disgusting human being.

Malcolm looked at me with a bored expression.

"Would you please let me finish?"

I gave him a look of complete and utter disbelief.

"Now where was I? Ah, jealous. She thought it was her job to get revenge and she didn't want her place taken by some crummy ex girlfriend of his. "

Celeste glared murderously at him.

"But what about that day on the plane? Was that staged? All of it? "

Malcolm rubbed his hand over his face and sighed.

"No. It wasn't."

Slowly the puzzle pieces came together.

"So when your sister asked you to distract me, you jumped at the opportunity."

I concluded.

"Yes but not for the reasons that you'd suspect me to."

"What do you mean?"

My voice softened by a small, microscopic fragment.

"I agreed because I wanted to get to know you more. You fascinated me. You cannot imagine my disappointment on that plane when I learned you had a boyfriend. And you cannot imagine the rage I felt when I learned that he had cheated on you. With my sister! No less."

Celeste looked unimpressed.

"Not the best way to tell a girl you actually like her."

Malcolm looked at Celeste with a confused expression.

"I mean it's like yeah, I went out with you cuz my sinister sister asked me to but I actually kinda like you."

Harley cracked a smile and said.

"Hey, don't be stealing my sass now."

Even Malcolm's eyes seemed a bit lighter. Less clouded.

"Then who killed all those people?"

Sophia said. Her eyes were cold. I couldn't blame her. A P.I. of hers got killed because of these family issues Malcolm mentioned.

"Killed?" He looked confused and shocked.

Something told me he had no idea about the murders.

"You don't know, do you?"

Harley muttered. She sounded annoyed.

"I swear I'm gonna shove you off a cliff if you're lying."

Harley threatened.

"Who died?"

Malcolm asked. He sounded a bit nerve-wracked.

I seriously hoped I hadn't been dating a nut job.

"Well for starters, this lady right here."

Harley said while turning the receptionist's desk around , making the body visible.

Malcolm's eyes widened with fear.

Somehow I knew it wasn't staged. He didn't know...

Suddenly someone's phone started ring in uncontrollably.

Malcolm gave everyone a sheepish smile.

He actually had the guts to do that.

That boy.

He answered the phone.

"Yes."

"Okay."

"See you in a few."

After sending me a look that left me shit-faced and cross eyed. (Hint: it was a look of longing)

He said.

"There's a back door, walk for a couple miles and you'll find a road. Get a taxi and get out. "

Harley narrowed her eyes at him.

"Whose side are you on? And why are you kicking us out?"

"For the moment... Yours. Alana's on her way. Get out, and run."

I was so shocked I didn't even say thank you.

Quite frankly I didn't want to either.

My friends immediately did as told.

I lingered for a moment and gave him one last glance before running off in the direction my friends went.
