18. Truth Be Told

Start from the beginning

Lydia looks back up at Allison, envy in her eyes. "None like that."

The two stare at each other for a moment before Lydia gets out of the car, marching up the hill in her high heals. Allison's eyes drift back to the front of the car as she places her head on the steering wheel, looking down as she loses herself into deep thought.

"Who was it," I ask softly, my spit thickening. "Who were you talking about?"

Allison looks up then, turning and staring me in the eyes. Her face is hard to read as she shakes her head, turning back to the front of the car. "No one."

"Where's dad at?" Allison says as we walk into her house, seeing her mother standing in the kitchen.

She glances up at her, looking as if she was hiding something. "He's out taking care of some business."

I narrow my eyes as Allison glances back at me, herself noticing her mothers odd behavior. She shrugs it off as she walks upstairs towards her room, skipping every other step. I follow after her as we walk into her room, Allison shutting the door behind us. She's quiet as she walks over to her bed, sighing as she pulls off her black jacket.

"You need to tell her," I say, talking about Lydia. "She deserves to know, Allison. Especially after what she saw tonight."

Allison turns to me, frustration on her face. "I know, Corey. It's just...I don't want to drag her into this. I don't want to have to tell her that everything she knows is a lie."

"She's losing her mind, Allison," I say, taking a step closer to her. "She was bitten by a stranger, she roamed the woods naked, she's seeing things she can't explain, and then she hears my own voice in her head. She's going to lose it if she doesn't find answers."

Allison places her hands on top of her head as she turns and sits on the bed, it bouncing a little. "I don't know how to tell her. You can't just tell someone everything without them reacting badly."

I walk over and sit next to her, staring into her brown eyes. "Then tell her how you told me."

Allison takes a deep breath. "This is just too much to think about right now. I really need some sleep before school tomorrow."

I nod my head as I stand, about to walk out of her room. After all, that whole "no being in my room unless I say so" rule still applied. It's still been in effect ever since Allison had first talked to me in here that night that seemed like ages ago. When she had punched me in the face...

"Goodnight," I say to her, smiling over my shoulder. She mumbles a goodnight under her breath as I walk to the door, about to make it before Allison speaks up.

"Corey," she says, causing me to turn and look at her with raised eyebrows. "You don't have to sleep on that couch if you don't want to."

I raise one of my eyebrows up higher. "Well, first off I can't sleep, but where else would I go?"

Allison smiles faintly as she scans her bed. "Well, this is a queen sized bed. I'm sure it'll fit two people."

A month. I've waiting a month to hear her say something like that. My heart starts to race as I shake my head, laughing as I stared at my shoes. I'm sure my face was turning a bright red, which embarrassed me, but Allison just laughs at me.

"Come on," she says as she starts to climb under the covers.

She doesn't have to tell me twice before I'm walking over to the bed, climbing in it besides her. For a moment things are awkward as we both sit there in silence, but the next thing I know, Allison was scooting closer to me. She turns on her side as she faces away from me, pulling the covers higher up on her shoulders.

"Man it's cold," she says, making sure I had heard it. I laugh to myself at how hard she's trying, but all she needed to do was ask. I lift my arm up as I bring myself closer to Allison, wrapping it around her so that we were spooning.

"Warmer?" I say, my cheeks still a bright red.

Allison nods her head, a smile on her face. "Yeah."

She readjusts herself slightly to get comfortable, but in a matter of seconds, she was fast asleep. I smile to myself as I stared at the back of her head, not believing that this was really happening. I mean, over the past week or so, it seemed to me her and Scott had something going on. I guess I wasn't reading her right.

For the rest of the night, I had just thought about everything happening. I had first thought about Jackson, Lydia, Scott, and then Allison again, but then someone else came across my mind, who happened to be Jade. I wondered what had happened to her; whether she was here with me or somewhere else, but I had a feeling I'd never know. She was just as lost as me.

Then I thought back to the car crash. Who was it that made us go off of the bridge? Another thing I'll probably never know. The fact that they had ran us off of the bridge and didn't stop angered me to no end. And it was even their fault they had drove us off of the edge.

The more I had thought about it, the more I realized that they must have done that on purpose. They would have had to of meant to be on the opposite side of the road, and since they didn't come back to check on us, they must not have truly cared. But who would want Jade and/or I dead? Nothing made sense to me.

Then I thought back to the feeling of drowning. The way the water feels when it rushes in, the calmness that comes over you. It feels like everything is okay again; that you don't have to worry anymore. It hurts at first, but then you just accept it. I remember staring at Jade when my eyes had closed, thinking that my life was truly over.

But instead I had woken up here in this world, meeting Allison. I would be lying if I said that I wish we wouldn't have ran off of that road, because then I wouldn't have met her. Sure, I was devastated about dying, but to me it was worth it. I did however regret it because of Jade being in the car with me, but I had a feeling Allison would help me get back. If that does ever happen, I promised myself that I would find and bring back Jade as well.

How am I even supposed to get back? It seemed almost impossible, but I know that there had to be a way. Especially since Allison can see and hear me and the fact that she knows about the supernatural. It was almost fate if you ask me, because without her, I wouldn't have a chance.

Allison stirs beside me as she turns on her opposite side, her eyes still latched closed. I smile faintly as I looked at her, still fazed that this was even happening. I wanted nothing more than to kiss her, but I knew I couldn't. Not until she wants me to.

And I hoped that would be soon.
