Chapter 3

Tara

I cried.

Water began to poor out of my eyes as my emotions finally got getting the best of me; tear after tear falling onto the floor. Without any doubt, I was truly living a nightmare.

"I need it on its back." The only woman in the room other than me said. She was obviously the one in charge, always giving commands, ordering that the others take note as she continues to experiment.

I had giving up a while ago on trying to fight, therefor I let the two men turned me around so I'd be flat on my stomach, not once did I attempt to push them away. Both combined they were stronger than me, I'd rather save up my strength for when I'll actually need it, meanwhile, I was like a sort of puppet to them: motionless and there for their personal amusement.

Slowly, I felt a think, long needle penetrate the middle of my back and into the bone marrow. It hurt, so much. I closed my eyes tightly as the needle kept going deeper and deeper. This was worse than any kind of torture any merperson of even human can inflict upon a living being. Earlier on, when the scientists had been experimenting with my mermaid tail, it hadn't hurt at all, because I was still paralyzed from the waist down. But, the more they went up, the more the pain increased and now it had simply become unbearable. Once the needle was fully in, I held my breath as they began to extract my blood. I continued to cry, but the scientists made no effort to try and numb the pain they were forcing upon me.

After what seemed to be an eternity of pain, I felt the needle being gently pulled out from beneath my skin. Once it was finally gone, I sighed in relief.

"Alright." The woman said, bitterly. "You can take it back to the tank, I'm done with it for the day." She constantly referred to be as it. As if being a mermaid didn't make me a boy or a girl.

The military men that had been guarding the door, suddenly were at my side, each grabbing one of my arms, and pulling me off the operating tables. I closed my eyes and let my head dangle downwards, as they dragged me back to my new habitat, my tail fluttering the ground. My "tank" as the scientists called it, was in other words a giant aquarium filled with sea water, rocks and a few aquatic plants; it was located in the middle of the military base. It was my new home from now on, or until the day they decide to kill me, which, at this point, I rather look forward to.

After walking up a few stairs, one of the militants let go of me and opened the trapdoor located at the top of the aquarium. Once the trap was wide enough, the men threw me in, not seeming to care if it would hurt me or not. Once in the water, they closed the door loudly and I let myself sink to the bottom of the aquarium, feeling rather hopeless, and very sad. When I reached the bottom of the tank, I laid there, flat on my back and staring upwards. When I used the do this in the ocean, through the water I could usually see the reflection of sun shining bright. It calmed me down. Now all I saw was the shadow of the trapdoor, blocking all light and access to freedom, making my tank rather dark. How had everything come to this? All I had wanted to do was save Taiven, and now here I was. I'd lost everything. I lost my kingdom, my legs, my human life, my brother, my husband and my own child. Simply thinking of Maverick brought tears to my eyes. He was only a baby, he had so much left to live, and the world had taken him from me. Just like it took everything else that I held dear, and I couldn't do anything to get back what I'd lost. I pitied my own self.

Still looking upwards, I brought my hands to my face and covered my eyes and begun to take deep and slow breaths, trying to calm down. I knew all too well that at this very moment, I was being watched. My tank was right in the middle of the military base, soldiers always came to look and marvel at me as if I were part of some freak show. However, there was always one man that spent more time in front of my prison than the others though: the General. He spent hours in the same spot starring at me; his posture as straight as an arrow, arms crossed and facial expression unreadable. Through the glass, he seemed to be looking straight into my soul, as if he knew my darkest secrets, and it scared me. But what scared me most was not knowing how much time I had left, how much longer they'd let me live. And from the way he stared at me constantly, I could assume it wasn't going to be much longer.

So that's it for now folks. Stay tuned for the next update! It'll be Diana (the crazy scientist lady) and most likely Ridge! Again, in the meanwhile I encourage you all to go check out Walkers! It's a good read I promise!

Thank you!
