Twenty Years Ago...

Rain poured over the Singhania Palace that night.

It wasn't the gentle kind of rain that made people want to sit beside a window with a cup of tea.

It was violent.

The kind that made the trees bend, the windows tremble and thunder swallow every other sound.

Inside the palace, however, there was an even greater storm.

"Where is Dadaji?"

Siya Singhania stood at the end of the corridor, her heart pounding.

She had been looking for grandfather for nearly fifteen minutes.

The entire palace seemed strangely quiet.

Too quiet.

She hurried toward his study.

The door was slightly open.

"Dadaji?"

No answer.

Siya pushed the door open.

And froze.

The grandfather clock in the corner ticked loudly.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

Her eyes widened.

Someone was lying on the floor.

"Dadaji!"

She rushed forward.

At almost the same moment, footsteps thundered down the corridor.

Vikram arrived first.

"What happened?"

He stopped dead.

Behind him came Vikrant and Virat.

And then Akriti.

Priya.

The entire household seemed to gather around the doorway.

Siya turned toward her husband.

"Vikram..."

Her voice trembled.

"I found him like this."

Vikram rushed toward his grandfather.

"Dadaji!"

He checked for a pulse.

Nothing.

"No..."

Virat immediately called the doctor.

Vikrant looked around the room.

Something was wrong.

The grandfather's desk drawer was open.

Papers were scattered across the floor.

And then Akriti noticed something.

A glass.

She picked it up.

"This was beside him."

Vikram turned.

"What is it?"

"I don't know."

Priya moved closer.

Then the palace doors opened.

The family doctor rushed inside.

Minutes later, the verdict came.

The patriarch of the Singhania family was dead.
