SETTING

Hansung University — a prestigious private university known for its literature and law programs, and for being run, in no small part, by one family: the Yoons.

The campus is old money and older ivy — stone buildings, a lake nobody swims in, a rumor mill that runs faster than the wifi. Everyone knows everyone's business. Which makes it the worst possible place to fall in love with your professor.

CHARACTERS

Choi Seungcheol — 31

Position: Assistant Professor, Department of Literature Seungcheol got his post barely two years out of his doctorate — young for the position, and painfully aware of it. He's warm where most professors are distant, the kind of teacher students actually stay after class to talk to. He runs on iced coffee, bad sleep schedules, and the quiet belief that literature should make people feel something. He didn't come to Hansung to make waves. He definitely didn't come here to notice the way one particular student underlines his sentences in silver pen. Personality: Steady, warm, a little too selfless for his own good. Terrible at lying, even to himself.

Yoon Jeonghan — 21

Position: Third-year student, Law major — and the dean's son Jeonghan has spent his whole life being introduced as "the dean's son" before he's ever introduced as himself. So he stopped waiting for people to bother. Top of his class, immaculately put-together, and allergic to anything that smells like pity or favoritism — he'd rather earn a B on his own than an A because of his last name. Cold, precise, unreadable. Until a certain literature professor starts writing comments in his essay margins that read less like grading and more like conversation. Personality: Guarded, sharp-tongued, secretly starved for someone to see him and not the surname.

Wen Junhui ("Jun") — 21

Position: Jeonghan's roommate and closest friend, Design major The only person who has ever successfully made Jeonghan laugh in public. Perceptive, a little dramatic, fiercely loyal — he's the first to notice something's shifted in his best friend and the last to say anything about it, waiting for Jeonghan to bring it up himself.

Kwon Soonyoung ("Hoshi") — 30

Position: Assistant Professor, Department of Dance — Seungcheol's best friend on faculty Loud, golden retriever energy in a blazer, the one person in the faculty lounge who can read Seungcheol like a book. He's the friend who says the thing everyone else is too polite to say — "you look at that kid like he hung the moon, hyung, and that's a problem."

Lee Jihoon — 21

Position: Jeonghan's academic rival-turned-friend, Music Composition major Blunt, unbothered, terrifyingly smart. He and Jeonghan started out competing for the top GPA in their year and ended up understanding each other better than almost anyone. He's the one who clocks that Jeonghan's been rereading the same paragraph for ten minutes — and it's not because the writing is hard.
