When I was 10, my father told me that I was betrothed to someone. Someone that I never met, my mother told me my betrothal was from another island, three years older than me, we'd meet on my next birthday, and I'd be told when I'd be getting married. That never happened, as my Dad died by ignoring the Chief and trying to find the Red Death's nest on his own and a year later my mother got a letter from the father of my betrothed. He called it off.
I was a bit sad, I won't lie, as I never got to meet the Viking I was gonna marry or get to know him. However, I soon forgot about the situation and helped my Mom with testing medicines, herbs, along with helping Gothi. I was good at making medicine, but Gothi hated it when I experimented on myself and not the animals. I hated seeing animals injured.
Unfortunately, the medicines couldn't save my mother who became ill. None of the medicines that we gave sick Vikings were working, she passed away when I was 12. Many were sad to see her go, Gothi and Chief Stoick told me to take a break from making medicine and to stay home while they look for someone to take care of me.
It ended up being the Chief himself, and when he took me in I was in charge of taking care of Hiccup when Gobber could not. I was 14 when I first babysat him. I became his first friend.
"My Dad says you were betrothed" Hiccup said, we were at the place where I practiced with herbs and medicines aka my old house. I couldn't move back in until I was 18, so I mostly went there to either be alone or practice with herbs and medicines.
"I was, for a year, but it was called off" I told him as I got some herbs out and starting mixing them.
"What happened?" He asked
'How to I explain this to a nine year old?' I thought before replying "well, I guess my betrothal's father changed his mind."
"The father changed his mind?" Hiccup asked.
I nod "yep, but I've moved on, as you can see, I practice making herbs and medicines."
"Is this medicine?" He picked up a bottle which I quickly snatched out of his hands.
"No! That's poison!" I exclaimed.
"Poison?" He asked as I put the bottle to a place where only I could reach it.
"Believe it or not, some poisons are used in medicines" that fact caused Hiccup and I to get along really great. What I didn't know was that Stoick would be recommended me to five more families to babysit their kids, who were also Hiccup's age, and that I'd also get close to them as well.
[Present Day, Berk]
No one's p.o.v:
"Yvette."
Yvette, now 25, was at her shop, when Stoick walked in. She looked up "morning Chief" she greets him.
Stoick looked to see Yvette experimenting on herself, "you're wounding yourself again?" He asked annoyed. There were red marks on her left arm and wrist, the Chief couldn't tell if it was a type of burn or not.
"Well, yeah, I have to experiment on something and it's not gonna be the live stock or the dragons" Yvette replied.
"Why are you not at work?" Stoick asked.
"Gothi gave me a week off, as not many Vikings or dragons are getting injured. Except Mulch and Bucket, so I'm doing some experimenting" Yvette replied putting the things she used away.
Before the Chief could ask, Yvette grabbed a bottle filled with one of her medicines, opened it, and poured it on her arm and wrist. They then watched as the red wound quickly faded away.
