CHAPTER 3

One Month Earlier

Justin sat with his wife. Ready for another day of work. His tie hung loosely from his shirt, Elisa was on her phone, glancing up into the eyes of the man she loved since high school.

"I wonder when the power will be back on?" She asked, sipping her warm coffee slowly as the morning sun filtered through the bay windows of the suburban home. Dust particles float through the air. The particles float through the kitchen where the two sat at the large dining room table. Both of them picked from a bowl of fruit and a hardy plate of bacon.

The home was freshly cleaned. The couple had a good rhythm for house priorities. Justin made good money at Weyland. It wasn't the main headquarters of the company, but a branch that was a giant metal building that resembled a military base, where Mr. Gray reported to the true boss. Everyone answered to someone in capitalist America.

"Good question. It's been out for a while." Justin answered with a shrug. The fact that lights didn't work in the house wasn't something he was too afraid of.

He feared many things. His brain kept him up all hours of the night, analyzing things that could go wrong. Especially when the company he worked for dealt with alien technology.

Xenomorphs and Yautjas were thankfully far away from his home. A power outage wasn't super uncommon in a suburban area, but one fact did nag at his brain as he sipped coffee and talked to Elisa about whatever the day's plans were.

The outage had lasted quite a while. Which was rare in the world of technology. Many would think Justin is quite silly. Overthinking everything. Analyzing everything that could go wrong. He was a scientist and he felt that was part of his DNA. He tried his best to keep everyone in check. And with that, making hasty decisions wasn't who he was. As someone who studied creature technology and creature biology, he always wanted to delve deeper. What kinds of brains did xenomorphs and Yautja have? He knew Yautja and xenomorphs were on earth at one point. And humans had gathered intel on both.

Though he'd have to have a refresher on everything should the world crumble due to these beings. He didn't have a steel trap memory.

"You nervous about the power outage?" Elisa asked, knowing her husband often was an overthinker.

"I guess." He stood from his chair, he stretched and finished the last of his coffee in one gulp. His hair was already combled, his clothes presentable.

Glass smashing apart broke the calm of the morning. Justin staggered back, the ceramic mug he clutched in one hand fell to the hard ground. His wife had been shoved by some form. A black, monstrous form. She fell on her side with a high pitched yelp.

"FUCK!" Justin screamed at the top of his lungs as he knew what had toppled his loved one. The spiked tail, the elongated head and the tooth-filled tongue sent waves of shock and terror through him.

Time seemed to move in slow motion as he walked further back, his back hitting the sink which was located in a corner of the kitchen. Sweat dripped down his face as he watched the xenomorph straddle his wife and with a hiss of thick saliva, the thing bites into her nose. She screamed as warm blood dripped from the gaping wound. She was aware enough to feel the pain this creature caused. She felt the fangs dig into her nose and yank. With a crunch of bone and flesh, the alien held the appendage in its mouth.

Elisa turned to face her husband, a gaping hole bled from the middle of her face as she begged for help that wouldn't come.

Justin knew he couldn't whack the thing with a frying pan or stab it with a knife. And he also knew if he didn't turn and run, he would be in the clutches of the bastard.

He couldn't watch Elisa die in such a gruesome fashion. Who knew what other plans that xenomorph had for her? He ran from the home, he heard her scream one final time.

The beautiful suburban street he lived on was a nightmarish hellscape. Xenomorphs hissed and bounced from house to house, killing his neighbors. Screams rang through the morning as the sun made its ascension. Blood and gore streaked the streets along with corpses of humans and pet animals alike. A baby stroller was knocked over and covered in thick blood.

Justin hopped into his car, his hands shook as he pulled out of his garage. Tears streaked his cheeks as he zoomed away from his home. Why was he heading to work instead of truly making a drive far away? He knew Weyland had weapons. He knew Mr. Gray had resources. He knew that survival would only happen if he was prepared. He wanted to join humans who knew these beings, and maybe put an end to this hell.

He drove, swerving between vehicles of dead occupants. More bodies were lying in the streets in his peripheral vision.

Xenomorphs looked at his speeding vehicle, luckily for him they were busy tearing the flesh from the dying.

He was speeding. 200mph. He wanted to keep the xenomorphs off his ass. His stomach lurched. He needed to vomit.

Once exiting the suburban area and once he was on a major highway full of stopped vehicles and corpses, he opened the driver's side door and vomited loudly. Wretching. His head felt heavy. His heart pounded. His wife was dead. His life would never be the same. He knew once he entered the building that was his workplace, he wouldn't go back to his warm bed. Humans needed to stay together. He couldn't be on his own.

He drove, crying gently. Luckily he didn't need to worry about moving cars. He didn't know how these xenomorphs were on earth. Nor did he really care at this point.

He needed a place to hide. A place with concrete walls and weapons. He knew that place was Weyland. As vile as his boss was, he knew the chance for survival exceeded. He could help. He could fire a gun and put an end to the scourge. The building had resources. Food. Water. It was made for an end of the world scenario.

Justin wanted cold, bloody revenge. Against the xenomorphs who took his life and turned it into a gory, Lovecraftian hellscape.
