Chapter One: The Hidden Door

The valley was quiet.

Too quiet.

Bellamy Blake stood at the edge of the tree line, his rifle resting against his shoulder as he scanned the only patch of green left on Earth.

Shallow Valley.

The last survivable land after Praimfaya.

Behind him, Wonkru and the Eligius prisoners glared at one another from opposite sides of the valley, separated only by a fragile ceasefire that everyone knew wouldn't last.

One wrong move...

One stray bullet...

And the war would begin again.

"Anything?" Clarke asked as she walked up beside him.

Bellamy shook his head.

"No movement."

She sighed.

"I was hoping today would be different."

"It won't be."

Bellamy looked towards the Eligius camp.

"They're waiting."

"So are we."

Before Clarke could answer, a low rumble rolled beneath their feet.

The ground trembled.

Birds burst from the trees.

"What was that?" Raven called from behind them.

Another tremor shook the valley.

This one was stronger.

Cracks raced across the earth near the base of the mountain.

Everyone turned.

Grounders reached for their swords.

The prisoners grabbed their rifles.

Even Diyoza stepped forward, her eyes fixed on the cliff face.

Then...

A section of the mountain collapsed.

Dust exploded into the air.

When it finally settled, silence fell across the valley.

"There wasn't a cave there yesterday," Murphy whispered.

There wasn't.

Where solid rock had stood only moments before, a massive stone archway now led into complete darkness.

Ancient symbols covered its walls, glowing faintly with a soft golden light.

No one recognised the language.

No one recognised the symbols.

But everyone felt the same thing.

The cave...

Was waiting.

Diyoza broke the silence first.

"I want a team inside."

Bellamy immediately shook his head.

"No."

She looked at him.

"If there's another way through the mountain, I want to know where it leads."

"And if it's dangerous?"

"Then we'll deal with it."

Octavia stepped forward from the Wonkru ranks.

"I'll go."

Bellamy turned sharply.

"No."

"I'm not asking."

She rested a hand on the hilt of her sword.

"If there's something hidden in our valley, Wonkru has a right to know."

"Our valley?" one of the prisoners scoffed.

"It belongs to whoever can hold it."

Several Grounders immediately reached for their weapons.

Bellamy stepped between the two groups.

"Enough."

His voice echoed across the valley.

"We're not starting another fight over a cave."

Clarke looked from Bellamy to Diyoza.

"We go together."

Bellamy frowned.

"Clarke-"

"If one group goes alone, the other will assume they're hiding something."

She looked at Octavia.

"And if we all go..."

"No one has an advantage."

For a long moment, no one argued.

Finally, Diyoza nodded.

"Agreed."

Octavia gave a single nod.

Bellamy didn't like it.

But he knew Clarke was right.

Within minutes, a small expedition had assembled.

Bellamy.

Clarke.

Octavia.

Raven.

Murphy.

Emori.

Diyoza.

A handful of Wonkru warriors.

Several Eligius guards.

The rest remained behind to watch the valley.

Bellamy stepped into the cave first.

The temperature dropped immediately.

The air felt strangely fresh.

Almost...

Alive.

His flashlight swept across the walls.

Every inch of stone was covered in carvings.

Men and women carrying swords.

Winged horses soaring through the sky.

Great cities hidden among mountains.

Figures standing beneath stars with glowing weapons raised high.

"What is this place?" Raven whispered.

Murphy reached out to touch one of the carvings.

The moment his fingers brushed the stone...

The entire tunnel lit up.

Golden light raced along every symbol.

A deep, ancient horn echoed somewhere far below.

Everyone froze.

Bellamy slowly lowered his flashlight.

"Tell me..."

No one answered.

Because they had all heard it.

Something...

Had just awakened.

Far beneath the mountain, beyond walls untouched by time, a quiet sanctuary stirred.

The Age of Sleep...

...was coming to an end.
