He told me I was wrong, that I didn't feel those things. He had the audacity to tell me how I truly felt. To make things worse, he told me that the only way he could ever see us being more then friends, were if we were to become fuck buddies. He didn't even try to sugar coat it. He told me not to take it to hard, that he did care about me. That he still wanted to be my best friend. All I could do was give him a slight nod, and walk away.
For a while after that night, I was in denial. I choose to block out that horrific night from my mind. I felt that it was better to move on and just stay friends. It sucked, but I don't regret my choice. I still care deeply about Jax, but it's not the love that I once had for him. Sure, I'll still have a little part of me that longs for him even though it's ridiculous. Anyways, it was Micheal that was there for my after that encounter. I think that's what first made me start to fall for him. He made things a little bit more bearable.
Besides what happened between Jax and I, he still a really great guy. Which is why I couldn’t get rid of this feeling in the bottom of my stomach. Snapping out of my thoughts, I realized that there were only five minutes of lunch left. Returning my attention back to the conversation, I began the task of finishing my food.
As the bell rang, I stood up and headed to my next class English. The last two periods went by quickly, and the school day finally came to an end. All I wanted to do was go home and climb into my bed. Hey, it takes energy to go to school all day and not give a single fuck. Putting the last of my things into my locker, I turned to see Jax leaning against the locker beside mine.
"So, I just talked to Micheal and he said that he has to stay after today so he won't be joining us today," Jax spoke.
I sighed and started walking with Jax towards his car. Micheal usually stayed after so I wasn't all that mad. It was just the fact that Jax was acting all weird and I'd have to be in the car with him for 20 minutes.
Once we made it outside and reached the parking lot, we approached Jax’s Cobalt Blue Dodge Charger. It was gorgeous. This car was his baby, having used the money he saved up since he was 12. I was hoping for my birthday this year he would finally let me behind the wheel. Getting in the car, I silently prayed that things weren’t going to be awkward.
"So, got any plans?" I laughed trying to make small talk.
"Not really," he grunted.
Well, so much for that. Jax started messing with the mirrors, so I reached over and tried to find something good to listen to. I turned the radio on and Kissing in Cars by Pierce the Veil came on. Jax turned to face me with a smile on his face. A sexy smile I might add. Wait, no, no, no. I did not mean that.
"Nice choice," he stated.
I sat back with a smile on my face. We we quiet for a little while, simply listening to the music. I looked over at Jax and his hair was covering his eyes slightly. He could he drive his his eyes covered?!?! I reached over and moved his hair out of his eyes. He sucked his breath and looked down at me.
"What are you doing?" he choked.
"Um, well. You see, you had your hair covering your eyes and I thought that you might not be able to see with you hair in the way which means if you can't see the road then maybe we'd get in a car crash and then maybe died so I decided to move it out of the way for you," I said gasping for air.
He simply looked at me and burst out laughing. I glared at him but soon started laughing with him. I really don't know what happened back there. When I moved his hair, it's like something happened and I have no clue how to explain it.
We arrived at my house, and he pulled that car over. "Well, we're here," he announced.
"I see that," I laughed, "well thanks again for the ride and everything," I smiled.
"Any time," he said.
I sat there for a second not ready to get out. It was now or never I guess.
“Jax, is everything ok? Like with you. You were fine this morning and then your mood suddenly changed. Is it something that I did?” I asked, determined to find some answers.
“It’s just been a long day, Skylar. I’ll be fine, stop worrying about me so much. You don’t want worry wrinkles now do ya?” He joked, with a small smile on his face.
“If you say so. Just, uh just know that I’m always here if you need to talk ok?” I spoke with sincerity.
With a nod of his head, he leaned over and gave me a hug that I returned instantly. I must admit, Jax can be a real asshole sometimes but he can sure give great hugs.
“Bye Skye,” He smiled, sending a thrill through me as his nickname for me left his lips.
“Bye,” I said as I got out of his car.
