The human heart was an incredibly fragile engine, and currently, it was losing its fuel at a catastrophic rate.

The rhythmic, high-pitched panic of the heart monitor was the loudest sound in Operating Room Three. It cut through the low hum of the ventilation system, a steady, desperate beep that grew faster with every passing second.

The air in the theater was chilled to an exact eighteen degrees, yet it felt heavy, thick with the unmistakable, visceral scent of metallic copper.

Beneath the harsh, blinding glare of the overhead surgical lamps, the patient was fading. A jagged shard of windshield glass from a high-speed collision had torn through his chest, slicing cleanly into the thoracic artery.

To the veteran human nurses frantically preparing additional units of blood, the man on the table was already a ghost.

To Seraphina Vane, he was simply a mathematical problem that required absolute stillness.

"Suction, now," Seraphina commanded.

Her voice was flat, carrying an icy, unyielding calm that immediately anchored the chaotic room. Behind the sterile blue fabric of her surgical mask, her silver-grey eyes remained perfectly steady. She didn't blink. She didn't look at the blood pressure readings rapidly tumbling toward zero on the digital monitors. Panic was a luxury reserved for those who lacked control.

"Dr. Vane, the field is flooding too fast," the senior scrub nurse whispered, her hands trembling slightly as she handed over a fresh clamp. "I can't clear the visualization."

"Then don't look with your eyes," Seraphina murmured, her tone deceptively soft. "Look with your fingers."

Outside the sterile white walls of this hospital, the glittering high society of Milan openly whispered about her.

To them, she was the pampered, wide-eyed darling of the Vane banking dynasty—a girl whose greatest daily challenge was selecting which designer boutique to patronize on the Via Monte Napoleone.

The public believed the Vane family had simply donated a multi-million-dollar wing to the hospital to buy their useless, beautiful heiress a trendy medical hobby. They truly believed she just liked playing dress-up in designer scrubs.

They had no idea who she actually was.

They didn't know she was a prodigy who had skipped two entire grades, completed her complex trauma internship years ahead of her peers, and held a legendary, untouchable status among the hospital's executive board.

"Systolic is dropping past forty!" the anesthesiologist warned, his voice cracking as a bead of sweat rolled down his forehead. "Dr. Vane, we are losing him. He's going into cardiac arrest."

"He isn't dead until I say he is," Seraphina said.

She leaned lower over the open chest cavity, her posture immaculate, completely unbothered by the crimson splatters staining her sterile gown.

She slipped her slender, double-gloved fingers directly into the deep, pooling darkness of the wound. To the medical team watching in breathless silence, it appeared as though she was merely applying manual pressure to the severed vessel, desperately trying to locate the source of the hemorrhage in the dark.

They couldn't see the silent transformation occurring beneath her skin.

Deep within the hidden recesses of Seraphina's chest, a localized, suffocating heat suddenly flared. It was her sealed, dormant soul—the ancient power—reacting to the proximity of death.
