You had been hanging out with Nobara, Yuji and Megumi in your dorm room, playing a board game. Nobara and Yuji were loud as usual and Megumi sat beside you looking irritated by the noise. You stayed quiet, occasionally smiling at their arguments.
But tonight, you felt just so out of place. When they left your room, your eyes welled up. You didn't even understand why, maybe it was exhaustion. Before you could calm yourself down, a knock echoed through your door. You quickly wiped your eyes and tried to steady your voice.
"Who is it?"
"Megumi. I forgot my jacket."
You quickly pulled your hood up and opened the door, hoping he would just grab his jacket and leave.
As he walked inside your room, you kept your gaze lowered so he couldn't see your eyes. You hurried across the room and picked up his jacket from the chair.
Megumi noticed immediately that something was wrong, but before he could say anything, you shoved the jacket into his hands.
"Goodnight, Megumi."
He didn't leave. Instead, he took a small step forward.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
Your answer came too fast. He narrowed his eyes slightly.
"You've been crying."
Your breath caught as you slowly raised your puffy eyes to meet his.
"It's nothing, really."
You forced a small smile. Megumi studied you.
"Is there something I can do?"
You hesitated for a moment before quietly asking:
"Can I have a hug?"
Megumi froze for a second at the unexpected question. Slowly, he put the jacket down and stepped closer, pulling you against his chest.
You were surprised he didn't say no or tell you to ask Nobara.
But he didn't. You wrapped your arms around his waist. He was warm and smelled faintly like ginger. When you relaxed against him, his arms tightened and the hug lingered far longer than it should have.
You pulled away from him, taking a small step back and smiled awkwardly.
"Sorry... I think I held onto you a little too long."
Megumi's gaze stayed fixed on you.
"It's fine.
You pulled your hood down.
"Thank you, Megumi. I feel a lot better now."
He nodded and picked up his jacket.
"Get some sleep."
You nodded.
"You too."
He stopped by the door before speaking again.
"I'll see you tomorrow."
The next day, through classes and training, Megumi stayed closer to you than usual. You didn't question it, you just assumed he was being considerate after last night.
The same evening, everyone was gathered in the common room. Nobara and Yuji were arguing loudly with Panda over snacks. You ended up on the couch beside Toge, quietly playing a video game together. You always felt comfortable around him.
Toge was quiet like you, and he always had a way of making you feel included without having to talk.
After losing a round, Toge lightly bumped his shoulder against yours. You laughed of his gesture.
