"Anna, are you sure you have everything?"
"Yeah, I do!" She dragged as she stuffed the remaining of her cereal in her mouth.
When she was done chewing, she quickly washed the plate and headed for the door.
"Anna!" Her mom called out to her.
She paused and turned back. "Yeah?"
"Aren't you forgetting something?" Her mom placed her hands on her hips.
Anna thought for a second before chuckling and running back to give both her parents a goodbye hug and kiss.
Her mom shook her head. "I mean, your bag."
She blinked and then looked behind her to see that there was no bagpack hanging on her shoulders.
"Right, right," she walked awkwardly to pick it up from the couch.
"Are you sure you're ready for school?" Her mother commented again.
"Yes, mom! Totally! Now, I gotta go," she skipped out of the house before her mother could say anymore.
The afternoon was always lovely. The sun would come up to melt all the snow and people's cold. No one cared how blazing it was for as long as their heart was warm to the degree they wanted. All their troubles and problems seemed small.
As she biked to school, enjoying the peace that only the afternoon seemed to bring, the sky suddenly went dark. The clear clouds quickly replaced with dark, gloomy ones like they never existed.
Small sounds were heard and followed with the sight of little lights in the sky. Everyone stopped to look up, muttering and questioning the sudden change in the weather.
Anna biked into an alley that had shade and peeped up to see if any rain would fall, but it was only the sounds thunder and no actual water coming down.
As she brought out her phone to make a call, she heard something move behind her. She felt the hairs in the back of her neck rise as she turned around to see what it was.
She sighed of relief when she saw it was only a racoon, but her heart kept on pounding like something more was there.
"Don't be scared," she told herself as she tried attempting to call once more. "It's just a stray-"
She paused when the shadow of the said racoon seemed to have grown huge like some sort of a monster. She still couldn't see what it was but could hear it growl and mutter.
She gulped and took a step back, her hand clenching on the hand of her bike, ready to hop on.
The small sounds the sky made increased and caused an almost deafening sound. The light from the sky touched the ground, sending those who were near into a frenzy, burning up things that were close by and still no rain.
She climbed on her bike and was about to move quietly in contrast to what was happening when her phone rang. She looked back and saw two red eyes staring back at her, and without wasting anymore second, she peddled out of there.
Needless to say, it followed her. As she passed through different people with shock and wonder written on their, she knew it was catching up. So she tried losing it.
She entered through a corner, bursting out to the main street and just kept peddling like her life depended on it. Maybe it did. But not once did she look back to see if it was still following her.
The awaited rain started to fall. First, with just little droplets before coming down completely. As if targeting her, her vision blurred a bit, and her leg twisted on the bike, sending her falling into an alley.
By the time she opened her eyes, she saw the red eye monster in front of the alley. She lay there, pretending to be dead, but her heart and heavy breathing due to the impact fought against her. But the shadowy monster didn't go for her.
It walked past her and kept muttering some weird lines.
She watched it through her peripheral vision, trying slowly to free her ankle from the chain when something weird appeared.
She felt her breath hitched as a round light glowed underneath the monster, and it started to spread all around the alley. It was fast like her heart race, and she started to scream for help, forgetting the shadowy monster was still there.
The white light seemed to consume whatever it touched, so when it was under her, she slowly started falling into it. She moved her hands in a struggle against but to no avail. It consumed both her and her bike.
With her strength practically gone, her eyes closed in defeat as she fell into the white void. Tears dripping out of her eyes, she muttered. "Mom... dad..."
