The first thing people noticed about Phuwin Wongsuwan was how... gentle he was.
Not weak. Never weak.
Just gentle in a way that felt out of place in a world that was always moving too fast, too loud, too unforgiving.
He laughed easily. Smiled often. Listened more than he spoke. The kind of person who remembered small things—what you liked to drink, what time your classes ended, whether you had eaten yet.
The kind of person who made people feel seen.
And maybe that was why no one really questioned it.
Not the way he was always picked up after class.
Not the way there was always someone waiting for him just outside the campus gates.
Not the way certain people seemed to watch a little too closely whenever he walked by.
To everyone else—
Phuwin Wongsuwan was just another university student.
"Are you even listening?"
Phuwin blinked, pulled out of his thoughts as a notebook lightly tapped against his arm. He turned his head, meeting the familiar, unimpressed look of the person sitting beside him.
Fourth.
Always there. Always watching.
"I am," Phuwin said, smiling a little sheepishly. "You were talking about the assignment."
"I was talking about how you've been staring out the window for the past ten minutes," Fourth corrected flatly, though there was no real annoyance in his tone. "If you fail this class, I'm not saving you."
Phuwin laughed softly, leaning back in his chair. "You always say that."
"And I always mean it."
They held each other's gaze for a moment before Phuwin's smile widened just a little.
Fourth sighed, but it was the kind of sigh that came with familiarity—years of it. The kind that came from knowing someone too well.
They had grown up together.
Same schools. Same routines. Same unspoken understanding.
If Phuwin was gentle, then Fourth was steady.
Quiet. Observant. Always just a step behind—but never far enough to lose sight of him.
Not once.
The lecture droned on, words blending into a distant hum as Phuwin flipped through his notes half-heartedly. Outside the large glass windows, the campus stretched wide and bright, students moving freely between buildings, laughter carried by the wind.
It looked... normal.
And for the most part, it was.
This—this—was the life Phuwin knew.
Late submissions. Group projects. Cafeteria food that was either too salty or not seasoned at all. Friends who argued over the smallest things and made up just as easily.
A life where his biggest concern should have been deadlines and exams.
Not the way his phone buzzed sometimes with messages he wasn't allowed to see.
Not the way his parents' voices lowered whenever he entered a room.
Not the way Fourth's eyes always scanned the surroundings before letting himself relax.
Phuwin noticed these things.
Of course he did.
He wasn't oblivious.
