don't say that you know what they're going through... you don't. you may think you do, but you have no idea. you have no idea what kind of things they go through day after day - what the personal bully in their mind's tell them hour after hour. It sucks. You get that. But please just don't tell them that "you know what what they're going through". People want to know that they're not alone, but not in that way. You have absolutely no freaking clue what they're life is like so don't say and pretend that you do.

it may not help everyone, but it especially helps me when someone tells me that they look up to me or give me reasons of why I'm a good friend to them. that boosts my self esteem a bit and makes me feel better about myself. also, reminding me of my favorite books and how i'll never get to read them again, or hug my little siblings.

oh, and don't make people feel guilty about them wanting to do suicide either. that makes them feel even more selfish and alone and sometimes even makes them give even more of a reason to leave. that might just be me, but i hate it so much when people do that to me. it makes me hate myself.
