Bailey

Noah got a call from Codie to come meet at the Pub.
My nerves had spiked, but Noah insisted we weren't going inside.
Hayley was waiting half asleep in the back seat of Noah's car, too buggered to come out.
We were now stood outside the Pub, watching a sober looking Codie, a semi drunk looking Joel and Keegan and a drunk looking Blayze.
What the?
Normally it seems like Blayze can hold his alcohol well!
Blayze muttered something about 'she's gonna kill me' and turned to try to go back the other way.
Keegan stopped him.
Who the heck did he think was going to 'kill' him?
Has something happened here tonight?
My heart seemed to twist almost achingly.
I tried to slap those thoughts away for a later date.
Hadn't Codie spoken?
Codie's words caught up to me.
Me drive Blayze's Ranger?
I shook my head.
"I don't know..."
"You'll be fine! It's easy to drive."
Codie stepped forward and held out the keys.
"No!"
Blayze stormed forward and snatched the keys from Codie's grasp.
"Codie you can drive my car! Or I can drive my car..."
Blayze's cloudy looking eyes slowly moved longingly to his car.
"No!"
Codie, Noah, Keegan, Joel and I demanded at once.
Good thing we're all on the same page...
Blayze has clearly had way too much to drink!
"Alright, alright!"
Blayze held up his hands, palms forward.
"So I've had a bit much to drink..."
He looked from his keys to his car once, twice... three times.
"Yes, you have!"
Codie stepped forward and snatched the keys from Blayze's unsuspecting fingers.
Blayze blinked.
"Bailey?"
Codie turned to me.
"I... I don't think... Blayze wants me to."
I all but whispered.
He was pretty quick to deny it before and tell Codie to.
Codie rolled his eyes.
"Blayze is drunk. He doesn't know what he wants."
"It would make sense for you to."
Noah turned to me, in agreement with her boyfriend.
"You guys have to go to the same place."
I nodded, attempting to steel my spine.
I was going to have to get back behind the wheel sooner or later.
When you live on a Farm, you don't get away with not driving.
Everything is too far away from Home.
"Okay."
I held my hand out for Codie to give me the keys.
"Good on ya."
He smiled and patted me on the shoulder, then moved over to Noah and wrapped her into his arms, bending to give her a kiss on the lips.
Blayze, the drunk nitwit, was the only one to open his mouth.
We were all used to the Codie and Noah PDA by now.
"Get a room already!"
Blayze groaned and half walked, half stumbled towards his car.
"Wrong side!"
I felt my eyes widen as he was attempting to go to the driver's side of the vehicle.
I grabbed the back of his shirt, pulling him back around to head for the passenger side.
Even I knew it really only worked because of his alcohol consumption.
He was a lot more sloppy footed and agreeable in his movements than sober Blayze.
"Yes Ma'am!"
He saluted.
But the twat used the hand holding the bottle of water and the bottle clunked him in the face!
"Ow!"
Blayze dropped the water to the bitumen and rubbed at his head.
We all laughed!
What, drunk Blayze doesn't swear?
He's fine to swear sober...
He folded his arms on his car and lent onto it, putting his back to the rest of us.
"Someone just take me home!"
He grumbled.
I bent to retrieve his bottle of water, unopened might I add and walked around to the driver's side of the large car.
Taking a steadying breath, I tried to prepare myself before I opened the door and climbed into the Ute.
It's not like I haven't driven a four wheel drive before.
It's not like I haven't driven manual before.
But it is the first time I'm getting back behind the wheel since the incident of the guy's ramming into me when I was driving Wallace home from Town.
I did my best to steel my spine.
I have to get us Home.
I grabbed the door handle of the driver's door and pulled it open, then swung myself up into the seat.
Codie opened the passenger door and the drunken bum — A.K.A Blayze — climbed into the car.
I handed him the unopened water bottle.
"Have a drink before we go anywhere."
I ordered.
"Whyyyy?"
He groaned, leaning back into the passenger seat.
"Because."
I set about rearranging the driver's seat's position while I waited for him to oblige.
There was going to be no use trying to drive a car that was set to Blayze's requirements.
"Short ass!"
I glanced quickly at Blayze, my cheeks heating up.
"Sh-shut up!"
I stammered.
I tested my feet on the pedals.
That's good!
"It's not my fault you're a giant!"
I mock glared at him.
He leaned over, reaching for a lever beneath the steering wheel.
"You can adjust the wheel too."
He muttered.
"I don't think I need to."
I attempted to push him back, doing my best to hold my breath against the stench of Jack Daniels and Beer along with the vague smell of lingering cigarette smoke.
"Of course you do! Everyone has their own setting!"
He insisted.
"Okay..."
I relented.
"You guys goin yet or what?!"
Keegan called from outside.
I twisted the key in the ignition enough to enable the electric windows.
Then I pushed the button to get the passenger window half way down.
"Apparently we're arranging the settings first!"
I couldn't help but smile a little.
Keegan started to reply, but Blayze put the window back up, muffling out Keegan's words.
"Try that."
He ordered.
I sat back in the seat, set my hands on the wheel and shot him a quick smile.
"Feels good."
"Good as in it's comfortable, or good as in you're trying to shut me up?"
Suspicion leaked into Blayze's expression.
"It feels good!"
I assured.
"Nice and comfy. I could get used to this maybe!"
I grinned.
He snorted, pulling the passenger seat belt around himself.
"You're dreamin'!"
I couldn't help but laugh!
Of course I was.
He let's barely anybody drive his car.
It's a Cowboy thing.
Don't:
- Ride my Horse
- Pat my Dog
- Drive my Ute
- Touch my Girl.
