"So why'd you come if you don't really have anything in mind?" Castiel asked.

"Well," Dean responded, "I was bored so my nerdy brother suggested to come to the library. I don't like to read much but I decided to try it out."

"Okay," Cas told him. "What kind of books do you think you'd like?" The only response Dean gave was a
shrug.

"Hmm," Cas though for a minute before beaming, "I know!"

Cas started off to the fantasy section. "Here," Cas said, shoving a book into his hands as a smile crept onto his face. Dean gave the book a questioning look.

"Lord of the Rings?"

"Yep!" Cas said while he smiled.

"Huh," Dean said as he read the back. "I saw the movies," he looked up from the book and looked at Castiel instead. "You smile a lot," he pointed out.

"Well," Cas started, "why shouldn't I? I have a nice life and I love being in the library. And, I guess you're a neat person. I love getting people to read,"

"Okay dude," Dean told him with a chuckle, "Stop. I think your optimism is infecting me."

That just made Cas laugh.

"Come on," Cas told Dean, "I'll getcha checked out now if you want."

"Okay," Dean said.

Cas lead the way as they walked to the checkout area. He scanned the book and Dean handed him cash. After they had made the exchange with money and books there was a small awkward silence. Cas looked up from the book and up at Dean. Dean held his gaze for a count of ten. Cas felt his heart beat speeding up a little bit.

"Well, I hope you enjoy it," Cas told him.

Dean nodded, "Yeah. It looks great."

"Yeah," Cas responded while rubbing the back of his neck.

"Well," Dean told him, "I've, uh, gotta go now. I'll see you again sometime, right?"

Castiel smiled at the thought of seeing Dean again. "Of course! I'm here everyday."

"Great!" Dean said.

As Dean walked out the doors, Cas couldn't help but think about seeing him again.

"Hey!" Cas heard a stern voice call.
Cas quickly turned around to find himself facing his supervisor, Naomi. She had brown hair that was piled up in a neat, professional bun and a pencil skirt paired with black heels and a white blouse. "What are you doing?" She asked him.

"Uh, I was just going to finish putting books away," Cas told her.

"Hm, well go do it then!" She told him.

Castiel walked towards to cart, still thinking about Dean and his bright green eyes. Cas looked down at the frayed carpet and took a deep breath. Okay Cas, he told himself, get back to work.

----------

"Goodnight!" Cas called out to Hannah, who was working until closing.

"'Night!" She replied.

Cas put on his old jacket and threw his scarf around his neck. He pushed open the doors and heard the bells on them chime. He took a deep breath of the cold night air and watched it swirl around. His shoes crunched on the leftover snow that had fallen the previous day.

He walked across the deserted street as more snowflakes started to fall. On the sidewalk an orange street lamp glowed. Cas couldn't help but think of all the books he'd read where a kiss happened. White fluffy snow falling and drifting through the air. Darkness engulfing the couple, not in a scary way, but more of a comforting way, that gave off a feeling of being snuggled in blankets with a cup of warm cocoa. Then it would happen. He'd lean in and start of with a peck on the lips. She might giggle and kiss back. Then it would turn into something more, something bigger than that. Where everything could be so wrong but that one little motion would feel so right.

Cas sighed, more than a little dreamily. His relationships hadn't ever worked out. He'd dated around in high school, mainly at the pressure of his friends. Then he'd realized why they hadn't worked out. He was gay. Not stereotypically so. You'd have to know him for a while, then you might realize it. But nevertheless, he was. And there was something about that guy, Dean, that made Cas keep thinking about him. Cas shook his head. No, he told himself, he's probably straight and he's way out of your league.

Cas liked to walk. He loved to. It always gave him time to clear his head and to think. He could easily review what had happened in a day on the way back to his apartment.

He took the longer route back, hoping that the walk would help clear his mind. He blew out into the dark night air and saw his breath spiraling around, a bright cloud in the night air, until it dissipated. Cas looked up at the bright pinpoints of stars above him. It made him feel so small. Small but not insignificant like some people felt. As his thoughts wandered into the deep abyss we call sky, a black car rolled up next to him. He'd been so distracted that he didn't hear the loud, rumbling engine.

"It's Castiel right?" He heard a deep voice call out.

Cas turned, shocked at the arrival of his visitor. He looked into the black Chevy Impala ('67? Cas wasn't very good at placing dates on cars) and saw the guy, Dean, from earlier. Cas smiled at him.

"Yep, that's me"

Dean glanced at Cas, scrunching his eyebrows,"Do ya need a ride? It's pretty damn cold out."

Cas shook his head no. "I'm good."

"Well, I know you're good," Dean responded with a wink, "but do ya need a ride?"

Castiel blushed furiously, hoping that it was too dark for Dean to take notice. "Um okay sure," Cas stuttered, "That'd be great...thanks." Cas smiled despite his cherry red face.

"Alright. Hop in then."

A/N-wow I'm really bad about updating sorry. I'm on vacation so hopefully I'll get more time to write! Thanks! 💜
