“Do you knock?” Chas snapped.

“You don’t.” Blaze smirked. “I had forgotten to tell you guys that there’s a party at Vivienne’s place tomorrow…so you guys will come right?”

“Sure.” I shrugged.

“No,” Chas pushed away her hair away from her face.

“That good then…Tia the party is at 7 evening okay and do convince my drama queen sister to come okay. My History homework is waiting for me.”

“You better get back to it then or Mr. Kingsley will slaughter you.” I laughed.

“You are right,” he groaned. “Goodnight babe.”

“Come on Chas…the party will be fun,” I looked at my best friend after Blaze left from her room.

“I am not going to Vivienne’s party…I don’t like her.”

“Why don’t you like her?”

“I just don’t like her…we never got along much. I would any day choose Stacy over her.”

“You have to get over not liking Stacy seriously Chas.”

She grinned mischievously, “I obviously like Stacey…it’s just so much fun fighting with her because that’s what we have been doing since childhood.”

“How juvenile,” I clicked my tongue. “I am glad she agreed to see the school counsellor. I was actually scared when I came to know that she is bulimic.”

“Yeah.” Chas shuddered no doubt remembering the scare Stacy had given us.

“You have to come to the party…I won’t know anyone there. Please Chas.”

“Fine…just this once and only for you.”

“What were you thinking? Do you know what the time is?” Marylyn seethed. I could almost see her nostrils flaring. “It is almost midnight—“

“But it’s barely 10!” I refuted annoyed.

“You ungrateful creature, don’t you dare argue with me! You flout the house rules and now you are being impudent.”

“But—“

“You are grounded….for two whole weeks,” she said firmly while sitting down on the drawing room couch.

“No,” I said through gritted teeth.

“Sorry?”

“No…I am not grounded. I will go where ever I please.”

Marylyn tried to gather words “Are you drunk?”

“I’m in my senses. How come Harriet is allowed to stay out as long as she wants to? And never does the house chores? From now on I am not doing the complete house work. It will be divided equally among us.”

She stared at me speechless.

“I’m going to my room now. I’m tired goodnight. And yeah…tomorrow there’s a party at my friends house so I’ll be late.” After that I headed towards my room. My step mother was sitting on couch with her mouth wide open.

I washed my face and thanked Blaze in my mind. If it wasn’t for his I would have never stood up for myself. For once in my life I did not feel so helpless. From then on I wasn’t going to take the hostile treatment from Marylyn and Harriet quietly. I had to fight for my rights. For a long time I had endured horrible behaviour from both of them but not now.

I was sure my daddy would’ve supported my decision if he was alive. Marylyn wouldn’t have treated me like she did if my dad was alive at the first place. But I was sure my daddy must have been smiling at me if he was watching over me from heaven.

The wish I had made earlier that evening made me smile. I had wished for two things. My first wish had been for daddy and second for Blaze. I had wished peace for daddy’s soul because I had realized long ago that dead people did not come back. In the second wish I had asked for me and Blaze to be happy together forever. It was a little childish but that was all I could think of at that time.

I walked over to the window in my room and looked up at the stars.

I gazed at the brightest star in the sky and whispered, “Is that you daddy? If it is I just wanted to say that I love you.”

This time instead of tears a sad smile spread across my face as I remembered an incident with my dad. I was a little girl at that time around 4 years old; my grandfather had just died at that time. I was crying like there was no tomorrow as I was missing my grandfather. Daddy bundled me in his arms and said to me, “Why are you crying princess can’t you see grandpa is right here with us?”

“No...he isn’t,” the little me sobbed.

“Off course he is. Look up Tia can you see that star?”

“Yes…that star is the brightest of all.”

“That’s because that is grandpa.”

“Really?”

“Yes princess,” he tousled my hair as we both looked at the star.

That didn’t take the pain away of my grandfather dying but it did make me feel better in some way. I used to spend a lot of time with daddy watching the night sky. It fascinated both of us. That was the main reason why he came up with so many stories regarding stars.

I slowly walked towards my bed and lied down on it. An unfamiliar feeling invaded my insides. I had just rebelled against Marylyn. Would she give up so easily?
