Okay, just to clear some things up:

An ankh is a monster that can control minds, tricking you into thinking you're safe while they attack or it can control you into fighting a battle for it so it won't get hurt.

A gelal is a monster that preys on women, especially girls.

Okay, that's it for now. Enjoy :)

Weeks passed without seeing hide nor hair of any monster. I knew better than to stop expecting them since I’d be unpared when they did show up again, but I couldn’t help relaxing in the peacefulness of the moment. I’d taken to doing homework in school so that my afternoons would be free.

Nick kept to his word and helped me learn how to fight in a second room next to his secret weapons storage. We started with hand- to- hand combat and only stopped when I was pinning him time after time. We had practised with dummies in the beginning of my training with the sickle. He then switched to battling me with a sturdy plastic sword and gave me a sickle made of the same material. In these battles he’d usually have me disarmed before I knew what was going on. Only sometimes did I manage to get past his sword to tackle him and pin his arm down when that happened.

“When am I going to learn how to summon my weapon?” I asked him one day in November after he’d had me pinned.

“When you can hold onto your weapon for longer than two seconds, I’ll teach you.” He took a swig of water and threw me my bottle. “For now, while you constantly lose it and have to fight with hands, I don’t see the point.”

I sighed, placing my bottle on the ground before scooping up the fake sickle and pouncing onto his back. I situated the weapon against his neck and locked my legs around his waist, using my free hand to grab a handful of his hair and jerk his head back, to better expose his neck. He froze, then swallowed the water that was in his mouth. His water bottle was capped and on the table in seconds before he gripped my weapon wielding wrist and twisted, making me drop the sickle before he backed against the wall hard, making me let go of him as the air shot out of my lungs.

He spun and made a grab at me, but I ducked out of reach and ran into the shadows, scaling the wall to hide on the ledge that only I knew about. I crouched, watching as he peered into the darkness, my own eyes narrowing to slits to cut off their reflectiveness which would give away my position. Quietly, I walked the length of the ledge so that I was right behind him. Looking around him, he bent his knees, cocking his head slightly to listen for me. Pushing off the ledge, I jumped out, flipping off the ledge and landing before him on the balls of my feet.

I knocked his knees out from under him, causing him to fall onto his back. Then I fell atop his chest and pinned him in less than two seconds. Grinning, I snatched the fake sickle off the ground and held it to his neck. Rolling his eyes, he surrendered, knowing that I’d overpowered him yet again.

“How do you manage to disappear on one side of the room and fall right before me on the other side of the room?”

I let him up and propped my hands on my hips. “That’s my secret. I’m surprised that you don’t know your surroundings better though.”

He walked over to the corner I’d climbed onto the ledge from and flipped on a switch that lit up the corner then turned to me, snatched his fake sword off the ground and lunged at me. I brought my sickle up and blocked the strike. Using the curve of my blade, I swung it around and left him unprotected from the kick I aimed at his chest, that sent him flying backwards. I advanced on him while he stood up, his eyes narrowing on me. Sweeping my feet out from under me, he used his sword to hold me in place and I realized that he’d conjured up the real thing.
