Way back when, before everyone realized how scary fear could be, and before history split into "before" and "after," there was just one world where people and witches lived together. Back then, magic wasn't something to be afraid of; it was just part of everyday life, like breathing and blood. Even though the people were different in what they could do and how they were, they were all connected by rules, trade, and a peace that was shaky but still there.
There were two big kingdoms that ruled this shared land.
The mortal kingdom was under the Winterbone family, a family that had been strong for a long time, sticking to tradition and believing that keeping things in order was the key to life. Across forests that sparkled with magic and rivers that hummed with power, the witch realm was run by the McAllister family, who were the keepers of old magic. They followed coven rules and prophecies that were older than the crowns they wore.
For a long time, the kingdoms lived together.
But then, ambition got the better of everyone.
Jonathan Winterbone, who was going to be the next king, thought that peace had made his people too soft. Louis Hart, a witch who was really smart and could talk people into anything, thought that witches had been too long bowing to the fear of mortals. They both thought they were doing what was best for their own kind. Together, they convinced others that being united was a lie and that fighting was the real way to go.
Jonathan started the fight.
Louis followed with his own.
What happened next wasn't a battle, but a big test of everything.
Fire met iron. Spells tore through cities. Families lost loved ones, not knowing why the world they trusted had turned against them. The royal families watched in horror as blood covered the land they had promised to protect, and when the war finally ended, nothing was the same.
In their sadness and fear, people from both sides came to the same terrible realization:
they couldn't live together anymore.
So, the realms were split apart by old magic and desperate actions. The mortal kingdom became EverLocke, hidden away from magic and sorcery. The witch realm became Auroria, bright and free, hidden from mortal eyes.
But before the final spell was cast, a secret meeting was called.
In hidden, whispered chambers, a secret was uncovered—a secret that could tear apart both worlds if it ever got out.
A mortal girl had children who weren't quite like her own.
A witch boy, who was sworn to keep quiet, was their father.
Twins.
Born from the union of blood and magic, flesh and spell.
The prophecy had spoken of them in pieces, of fire children who would stand where worlds had broken, who would heal what hatred had torn apart, or even destroy it completely.
To keep them safe, the royal families did something that seemed impossible.
They changed the spell that separated them, sending the unborn saviors not to EverLocke or Auroria, but to a faraway land untouched by the war, far from Jonathan's pride and Louis's anger. There, the twins would be born in secret, hidden from those who would kill them before they could even grow up.
And so, the realms were split apart.
Jonathan and Louis thought they had won.
But they didn't realize that by trying to divide the world, they had set the stage for its downfall.
Because in just a few years, everything they had fought for would start to fall apart, starting with two children who belonged to both worlds.
