⍟ Broken Strings {A Chaos Theory x Male Reader Story - Ben}

𝟻. 𝙶𝚒𝚟𝚎 & 𝚃𝚊𝚔𝚎

Everyone scrambles to cling to the walls of the outpost as a giant Quetzalcoatlus lands on top of it, pecking down at them on the platform.

They waste no time rushing for the door, Ben slamming it shut just short of the giant pterosaur's beak. The seven of them end up back-to-back, staring up at the roof anxiously as the creature above them screeches and stomps around.

Suddenly, its large eye peers through the sky light window above Brooklyn and Ben, blinking slowly before it pecks through, sending shattered glass flying across the room.

"Go find Bumpy's location!" Darius shouts as everyone scrambles away from the attack, "We'll distract it!"

"We're on it!" Sammy nods, her and Brooklyn rushing back into the server room.

Darius runs at the Quetzalcoatlus' beak with a desk stool, swinging at it and getting thrown off almost immediately.

The force of the trashing sends Yasmina and Kenji tumbling backwards, along with the filing cabinet that teeters before tipping over onto them. The pair struggles, Kenji catching the heavy metal piece and the two of them straining to push it off.

Y/N hurries over, pulling up with all his might, "Ben! Little help?" He calls.

Ben runs to join them, grunting as he pushes at the cabinet. They get it high enough that Yasmina and Kenji can bend and push with their legs as well. After a couple more seconds of struggle, the whole thing flips right-side up and topples over.

"Holy smokes." Y/N huffs, helping Yasmina off the ground as Ben reaches for Kenji's hand, "Now I know what those workouts back at Gia's place were for, Ben."

"Honestly, I was starting to think all those muscles were just for show." Kenji reaches out for a fist bump but is abruptly cut off when Y/N tackles him and Yaz out of the way of the Quetzalcoatlus' impending beak.

When they manage to get to their feet, Darius is tossing each of them heavy-duty flashlights.

"Stay." Y/N puts an arm in front of him when Ben tries to join them outside, "Go help the girls look for Bumpy."

Ben hesitates a moment before nodding in determination.

"See you soon, big guy!" Kenji shoots him a thumbs up before he and the other three rush out onto the platform.

Darius and Kenji climb up the closest ladder to the roof, clicking their flashlights and shouting at the Quetzalcoatlus to try and garner its attention. When nothing happens, the two men slide down in disappointment.

"That normally works." Kenji frowns.

"So does this." Y/N snatches a shock prod from by the door, pressing the button to charge it up. He climbs up the ladder, gripping the prod and flicking it on before chucking it at the creature like a weirdly long football.

The weapon slams into the predator's back and it whips its head around in an instant. Y/N helps, jumping down from the ladder as the winged assailant stomps towards him. He hugs the edge of the wall along with the others, everyone holding their breath.

Ben, Sammy and Brooklyn suddenly tiptoe out, Ben shooting them a thumbs up as the two girls head down the ladder and towards the truck.

The Quetzalcoatlus rears its head, peeking over the edge of the roof and spotting the others. It thrusts its head down, beak coming between Darius and Y/N and the rest of the group.

"Get to the car!" Darius shouts as his friends duck for the ladder.

"What about you guys!?" Kenji calls back.
