She knew Alaric had developed feelings for her, but they weren't the type of feelings she wanted. He appreciated that she helped raise his children and that she accepted they weren't originally hers, yet she still gave birth to them. Between the guilt of her father's death and the fact that she had given birth to his children, she felt conflicted. Nonetheless, he had started to like her, but she still didn't like him.
Caroline knew deep down that the choice she would make now would save her a lot of heartache later. So, as she got dressed, she finally made her way downstairs to say goodbye to her mother and inform her about the appointment.
Caroline walked down the stairs and headed straight for the kitchen. She could smell the coffee brewing, the same one her mother drank every morning. She could also smell the vervain that was in the coffee.
When Caroline looked up, she saw her mother. Her mother didn't have that sickly look to her just yet; she didn't have to fight cancer at this moment. She was healthy for the most part, and Caroline felt all the emotions wash over her—joy at seeing her mother, but also sadness for knowing that she had once lost her.
Caroline went straight to her mother and hugged her tightly.
"Whoa, what's up with you today? You're not normally this huggable," Liz said as she chuckled at her daughter.
Caroline hugged Liz tighter.
"I just missed my mother so much. You've been working all those shifts lately. I'm starting to worry about you," Caroline told her mother.
"I'm fine, I'm fine, really—nothing to worry about," Liz said, trying to reassure her daughter.
"Actually, Mom, I've been really worried about your health lately. I set up an appointment, and I want you to go. I'm not paranoid, but I also want to make sure you're healthy. After all, you're my only mother; if something happened to you, I'd be so sad," Caroline said, letting a tear run down her cheek, knowing her mother couldn't refuse.
"Fine, I'll go; just put it on the calendar and I'll take time off for it," Liz said, wiping the tear from her daughter's cheek. It was one of Liz's weaknesses. She thought of herself as a tough person—a stern mother—even so, her daughter was her only weakness.
"Thank you, Mom, and I love you. I don't say it enough, but I love you so much," Caroline said, hugging her mother one more time before kissing her cheek and waving goodbye as she left the house. Caroline had too much to do today. She had already convinced her mother to go; now she had to tackle other things.
Currently, the drama involved Elena and Stefan. They were still technically dating but had already tried the whole hybrid thing and given up on it. Stefan had turned his humanity back on—thank God! She didn't have to worry much about Elena since she was still human. There were no surprises coming up anytime soon that Caroline could remember.
Tyler was out of town. They were already broken up. Bonnie wasn't in a relationship yet; Jeremy was still mourning Anna, so they wouldn't be together for a little while. Of course, Caroline shipped Bonnie and Enzo; she would have to help them get together. There was no other way. She believed Enzo was the end for Bonnie. They were always going to be together. She watched her best friend go through depression after his death. I was going to hopefully try to stop that.
Caroline didn't have much of a timeframe. She knew Klaus stayed in town for a little while, which is how Hope was conceived with Hayley. Hayley didn't leave town until the next day, which meant today was her last day unless someone convinced her to stay longer. Of course, she had no clue how Klaus's reproductive system worked, but she knew that due to being an original hybrid, he was able to make children. She still wanted kids; she loved being a mother in her last life, but this time she wanted it to be on her own terms.
