Chapter 1 (Flipping the plot)

So tonight, she would be heading off to Klaus's mansion. She was going to change her fate completely.

Caroline knew that once she headed off to Klaus's manor tonight, her entire life would change. She wouldn't give birth to Lizzie and Josie as long as she saved Jo. She loved her daughters; she really did. However, there was so much of a mess surrounding their birth and the doubt they had because of it. She never wanted that for her girls. If she could let them have their biological mother and just be an answer to them, she would happily do it.

Caroline knew what she was signing herself up for at four, but she loved Hayley and Klaus. She didn't know how it started; she just knew that she loved both of them. She remembered how much Hayley had struggled—how hard it was to raise Hope while trying to save her family.

Caroline had many talks with Hayley at night about how, even though Hayley was in a relationship with Elijah, she had Klaus's baby. Now that they were all gone, Hayley admitted to Caroline that she missed Klaus the most.

Caroline missed Klaus too. He was never the villain of her story, and she told him that. Klaus was the first person to choose her and only her; even Tyler's true love was Vicky. She didn't know if Tyler had any love after her, as she wasn't very interested in him anymore. After their encounter in the woods that day, she practically said sayonara to him. She originally found happiness in the fact that he was back in Mystic Falls, where he was born, but that didn't mean she wanted to get back together with him.

Right now, based on how she looked, she seemed to be around 16 or 17, which meant she did love Tyler, but she was already in her 30s mentally. She had gone through teenage drama and was starting to form a plan.

Caroline instantly picked up her phone and called her mother's doctor. After a few rings, the office secretary picked up.

Caroline had gotten through the entire phone call. She knew her mother's schedule pretty well, so she set up a time when she knew her mother would be available before hanging up after a few pleasant conversations with the secretary about Caroline's "worries" regarding her mother's health.

Caroline got dressed in one of her old outfits. She hadn't worn it in so long; having babies transported into your body changes your wardrobe, and then becoming a mother changes it even faster. Caroline hadn't worn clothes like this in a while. After the twins were born, she had always been so professional that she wanted to retain some of her fun personality and not work so hard this time around.

Caroline was pretty sure about how she had died. She had become so busy being the headmistress that she forgot to eat a few times, due to being adept at controlling her blood loss. She must not have even noticed that she forgot to drink, and her body probably went either dead or into a coma until she could get blood, and since she didn't, she probably died.

Caroline, though she knew she would miss her daughters, understood that this was probably for the best after they went to school. She was rarely around them while trying to save them; now she had the resources to do so. She could be the aunt instead of the mother and ensure Alaric was happy with his bride.

Caroline did have some discontent with the lack of attention she had forgiven him for, but she still held what he said close to her heart when she was pregnant with the twins and they were feeding off of her. It was extremely hard, and she worried she might actually die. She remembered what Alaric had said when he thought she couldn't hear him—hoping the children would kill her off so she wouldn't have to deal with the fact that her father was dead.

Alaric didn't want to feel guilty for killing her father by letting Caroline die. The guilt was supposedly washed away, but she knew it was wrong. He would still feel guilty.
