It was a night in Washington where an editor sits hunched over a dual-monitor setup, the harsh blue light reflecting off her green tired eyes. It is 10:00 PM, and the rest of the city is asleep, but deadlines cannot be afforded. Editing articles about modeling in New York and around the world was way more important. To her misfortune, the journalist who wrote the article, wrrote in a poor wrriting structure in wich barely Olivia could even understand. One of her Colleagues comes inside and asks Olivia " Damn girly, when was the last time you left your chair?". Olivia answered " I'm going to leave this chair when I'm gonna figure out how to fix this article ." she stares at the screen, She looks at the window, looked at the screen again, and put her head tired on the table saying : " Who told me to get this job. It's so annoying. Does this journalist even has a bit of a clue about grammar? How good it was with the former journalist I had worked with. He was annoying but at least he knew how to write his articles and there was no need for such a headache. " said Girl with a tired voice. Seeing her in the state she was in, her colleague did not ask her anything more, she poured coffee that was left from her cup into Olivia's bottle and the only thing she asked was only if she could watch her daughter until she returns. Olivia wasn't even in the mood for it but she stayed silent and continued her work .
Olivia : ( is she not able to watch over her own daughter or leave her at home ? This is ridiculous, this is a work place not a kindergarten . But whatever.)
The child approaches Olivia delighted
Child : miss? Are you... angry? The child asked
Olivia : (sighs ) no, I am just tired. How about you go and preferably rush your mother to take you home or stay silent.
Child : but.. Mom said you will play with me...
Olivia : yeah? Well guess what. I can't. If you can't stay in one place and watch me work until she returns then feel free to leave to her. I got enough work to do and I don't need another layer of annoyance around me.
Child : Okay...perching on the edge of the desk, pointing at a giant corkboard of clue.... So, do you get to wear a trench coat and chase jewel thieves across rooftops every day? Like in the comics?
Olivia: No, Kid. Most of my days are spent staring at tax records from 2012 and drinking lukewarm coffee so that I don't lose my sanity.
Child : (eyes widening) "Whoa! Are those from secret spy missions? Do you have to dodge lasers?"
Olivia : No.
Child :Then why do you have so many detective stuff?
Olivia : These are not detective things. I'm just...they are just Stuff that everyone has at hand.
Child : undeterred, grabbing a magnificent glass from the desk and looking through it Well... at least you get to interrogate bad guys in a dark room with a single lightbulb!
Olivia : Actually, my 'interrogations' happens over the phone with the Jurnalists whenever they need an editor to check their articles before posting them. Points to the door Now, please, put the magnificent glass down and go ask your parents about secret spy missions.
Child : but!--
Olivia : Look kid, you children when you think of mysteries you imagine of cartoon movies with scoobie doo and the mystery team or any other possible comic book that your imagination could ever create in your mind. But Mysteries aren't just unsolved questions, enigmas, or hidden truths that baffle understanding and trigger curiosity. Detective's work is a endless paperwork, sifting through boring records and dealing with difficult people, gathering and analyzing evidence like fingerprints, body fluids, and human tissue, while maintaining a high level of objectivity in reporting their findings.
" A good detective isn't just someone who finds clues, they are individuals who can make those clues hold up in court." it's a line that someone once told me when I was as naive as you.
Child : I don't understand..
Olivia: of course you don't. You will only understand when you are gonna grow up.
Olivia was looking at the child tired and exasperated by his presence, when she tried to kick him out again, her boss appeared and interrupted the conversation.
