CHAPTER ONE.

10 YEARS EARLIER

NOOR.

The bickering of children is what filled the white walls of the hospital room, laughters on their faces and happiness glim on their smiles.

"We will name her kausar,
No way, Daddy let's name her Rukayya....

"The man of the house has spoken,
It's kausar,
Baby kausar."the middle age man says smiling at the teenage boy standing by the bed.

"Noor,
Please come take this children home,
It's almost time for the Islamiya let's not mentioned how loud they are shouting."the woman who's laying on the hospital bed says she's like a carbon copy of the teenage boy standing by the bed.

"The doctor said we will soon be discharged let's just wait.....

"No,
Let them go, they are shouting way too much."she disagree with her husband who only smile but fish out the car keys from his pocket.

"They should go with the taxi
When they discharge us we will......

"He should drive them home,
When they discharge us we can call a taxi and go home."

"I don't trust noor driving this girls home."

"He's a way better driver than you."the middle age man says and they all laugh, he collects the car keys and leave with the 3 little girls.

Sighing the woman laying on the hospital bed stare at the man holding the baby, she finds herself smiling and she couldn't help but reminisce about her past,
Starting afresh , people speak of it as though it's a taboo, they speak bitterly about a woman walking out of marriage that feels suffocating as though it's her fault that things don't work ,
The society looks down on ladies for leaving a toxic marriage, blaming them for their fail marriage and constantly blackmailed them of what a taboo it is to be a divorcee especially in the northern part region, growing up was fun to Habibah, she grew up in a conservative family, her parents had 4 of them and all four of them were SS her parents who were both AS  refused to walk out of the marriage despite everyone criticism they stick to a stupid believe that whatever it is that their children are experiencing was nothing but a mere test from the almighty, one after the other Habiba watched each of her siblings died, it was a traumatic experience especially knowing that her own fate isn't  gonna be any different from theirs with the constant hospitalization and pain,
3 years after her eldest brother passed away her mum suffered a short illness that claimed her life, she was barely a teenager then, her father raised her all by himself, despite the constant criticism from people his family budging him to marry he refused she could remember the Sunday morning when she wrote her final WAEC examination she was excited about coming home to share with him about how everything went but when she arrived home and found it packed with people she couldn't believe the horror that awaits her,
Her father passed away in a ghastly motor accident that day her life falls apart, just two days later her father's brother takes her custody, it was a bad experience living with him, her maternal family where not financially buoyant enough to take her so they let her live there, when her WAEC result comes out good, her dream of a better education was crushed, her uncle married her off claiming in their family a woman can only continue her education after marriage, she was merely a 15 years old girl, her dream put to halt, after her marriage to the 25 years old young man he denied her the Privilege to further her education, when she protested her dad's brother shut her up, telling her that her fate is in her husband hand, when she insisted she wanted her inheritance so she can continue her education they call it a taboo at the end they claimed her dad left nothing behind and the little he left they used it to settle his debt which was nothing but a mere lie, as a teenager with dreams Habiba refused to let whatever blocked her way to achieve that,
A year after her marriage she put to birth to a baby boy who was named Noor, she pleaded with her husband to let her continue her studies which for some reasons he agreed but tell her he won't spend a dime on it, she agreed and learn a skill to raise some money for that,
She settle for braiding because it's the only skill someone could learn and start without spending much, the next two years she raised enough money to continue her education but what happened when her husband tells her that her two years old son doesn't need education because he didn't acquire one himself, Habiba knows this is something she could never agreed to despite her protest he refused to listen, she enrolled herself in the state polytechnic because her husband said he doesn't want her to go to the university claiming any woman in the university is nothing less than a prostitute, While in school she strive not just for a good education but for income enough to take her two years old to school, she pick a simple two year course of the science laboratory technician, she graduated with a good result and manage to secured a lecturing job in the school there, but when the time to start her job reaches her husband calls it a blasphemy,
"Women are not supposed to work."
He said to her it's either she stay home and learn a skill or she kissed goodbye to her marriage, a threat every woman feared for but Habibah didn't give it too much of a thought she demand he divorce her which he refused,
After a lot of dispute he let her work,
Leaving 80% of the house responsibility to her including feeding and their son's education.
Habiba work hard for so many reasons but the most important reason was for her to walk out of her marriage when noor was 5 she decided she has saved enough to leave, she demand a divorce but he refused without much of a thought she leaves with her son,
But her husband decide if she would leave she shouldn't leave with noor, the whole custody battle didn't favor Habiba as the court grant her husband noor full custody, left with no choice she decided to go back to her husband house not because she doesn't want to walk away but because noor was too little for her to leave him all by himself with his so called father who doesn't care about him,
Habiba continue to live in the so called loveless marriage until noor was 6, an unfaithful Friday evening she comes back from work, over the years she went back to school and acquired the BSC in MLS She now earn pretty well and takes very good care of her son and makes sure he gets a good education and never lack whatever, she has been on birth control since she realize her husband isn't just not ready to take responsibility he isn't a good father to their son rather than adding more salt to her wound she decided that noor is enough for the both of them.
