Noah, the new boy, was from a community. South Carolina, around 50 people, walls and houses.
Rick wanted to head for it. Beth wanted to. So, that's where they went.
They decided to send only a small group into the community - just in case. Sami was to take care of those who stayed at an old warehouse they found, while Rick was to lead the others. They made their teams, and that was that.
Until Danny insisted on going.
His arm wasn't healed yet, but the agonizing pain had dulled down. He now only got large waves here and there. Carol had stolen plenty of drugs to help him with the pain that he'd been taking. Not as regularly as he probably should have taken them, but they took them when he needed it.
He felt useless, and wanted to get out and do things. To find something he was good at, amongst all of this.
Michonne thought having a child might show the people that they're good. Sami thought it was stupid, and Rick thought that Danny was right. The he needed to learn his strengths.
Tyreese went so that Sami knew Danny was protected. And that was that.
Danny, on the otherhand, was surprised he was allowed go. Before, he was never aloowed leave the prison or go on runs. And he understood that now, everywhere was dangerous. But it felt strange to be out with the group on some kind of run. Just . . . out of place. He was glad for something to do, though. To take his mind off the losses and the pain. <aybe that's how Rick convinced Sami to let him go.
He figured it may have been just to stop Rick from flipping out. He seemed on the edge of a cliff all the time - one wrong move away from losing it. Sami had said it, danny had seen it. Still, it felt like a big risk. Danny just hoped he was up for it.
They pulled to a stop in the woods, on a back road, about two miles from Noah's community. Just in case, Rick said. Danny could remember coming up on Terminus. If Carol hadn't had the same idea, they'd probably all be dead now.
"This is good." Rick nodded, looking from their car - a beat up old van - to the two cars wreaked on the road in front of it. "From the trees, it'll just look like part of the wreck."
A walker thumped on the window behind him, snarling as it reached it's hand to the glass.
"It's this way." Noah gestured to behind himself, and began walking, the others following.
Tyreese looked at Danny as he walked beside him, behind everyone else. "It is good you're out here. Get the hang of how to live without your arm."
He nodded, glancing down at the still bandaged stump. Rosita said it had to stay on for another four weeks. "I'm surprised Sami and Rick let me go when I asked."
"I promised I'd look after you. And Rick thinks you need some practice, too." He placed a hand on his right shoulder, squeezing lightly. "This is an easy run. In and out, regardless of what it looks like. You'll be fine."
"Yeah."
They stopped in front of thick, metal wire, wrapped around the trees and weaved around itself.
"Your people do this?" Michonne questioned.
Noah nodded. "Wanted to. Must have."
It was the exact kind of thing Danny need to get used to. His ballance was shot, meaning ducking through the wire took him a few seconds longer than the others. Nevermind the fact that he was also a hell of a lot smaller, meaning her struggled a lot more than the adults and lanky Noah to get over some parts of the wire.
