The rain had been falling all day, smudging the view outside the glass windows of Virat's apartment. He was lying on the bed, curled into the familiar warmth of Rohit's pillow. It still smelled of him-earthy, masculine, soothing. The kind of scent that always calmed him, always made him feel home. For years now, Rohit had been his safe space, his partner in every way, though the world outside didn't know much about them.

And that was where the problem began.

Rohit never really said anything about what they were. Sure, he loved Virat in small ways-holding his hand in the middle of the night, curling his arm around him when he shifted restlessly in sleep, pressing lazy kisses on his hair when he cooked-but when anyone else asked, when people teased, Rohit just avoided. A shrug, a change of topic, an easy laugh.

At first, Virat didn't notice. He was too wrapped up in the warmth, the comfort of just being together. But slowly, the cracks started to show.

It wasn't him who saw it first-it was his friend Jadeja.

"Yaar," Jadeja said one evening as they sat together after practice, sipping tea, "don't take me wrong, but... are you sure Rohit is serious about you?"

Virat blinked, confused. "What do you mean?"

"I mean," Jadeja leaned back, choosing his words carefully, "you've been with him so long, but has he ever said it clearly? Properly? Has he introduced you? Claimed you? Or is this just... comfortable for him until he decides something else?"

The words stuck like thorns under Virat's skin. That night, as he lay in bed, Rohit's steady breathing against his back, the question repeated itself over and over: Is he serious about you, or is this just time pass?

From then on, Virat began noticing things he had ignored before.

When reporters asked Rohit about his personal life, he'd laugh it away. When a teammate teased, "Virat spends more time in your room than his own," Rohit chuckled and said, "He likes my snacks." When someone hinted at them being more than friends, Rohit's face tightened for a moment before he distracted with a joke.

Why does he never admit it? Virat thought. Why does he act like there's nothing?

It festered. Every small thing fed the growing insecurity. Every time Rohit dodged, every time he stayed silent.

Until one evening, everything shattered.

---

Virat had finished a meeting early and decided to surprise Rohit. He went to the hotel where Rohit was staying for a family gathering. Walking toward the lobby, he froze.

There was Rohit, across the glass doors. Laughing, talking-hugging a girl tightly.

Virat's phone buzzed in his hand. He dialed Rohit immediately, throat dry. The phone rang once, twice, thrice. No answer.

On the fifth attempt, Rohit picked up.

"I'm busy right now," Rohit said quickly, breathless, before cutting the call.

The world seemed to tilt. Virat stood frozen, the sight of Rohit's arms around someone else, the casual dismissal of his call, the weeks of doubt and silence-all crashing together.

He couldn't breathe.

When he reached home, tears slipped freely down his face. He sat on the floor, phone in hand, typing through blurred vision.

Virat : It's over. Don't contact me again.

He pressed send before he could change his mind.

And then silence.
