“…You felt it.”
“Yes.”
“The threads moved before their time.”
“They were not ready.”
“They were drifting apart. Had they been left to wander, the stain would have consumed the pattern entire.”
“And so you forced them.”
The air trembled, taut as a bowstring drawn too far.
“You arrogant fool!” the first voice thundered, storm breaking in every syllable. “Do you not see? The girl and that monster are not meant to bind. Their threads twist too tightly, fray too wildly. Together they will snarl the Weft until it tears itself apart. The universe is not strong enough to bear them side by side!”
Silence, but only for a heartbeat.
“Better chaos than nothing,” the second voice murmured, dangerous in its calm.
“No,” the first roared, his fury rattling like thunder through the void. “Better one thread cut clean than the loom destroyed. If you will not end this pairing, I will.”
