9: Too good to be true

"Today is your big day. I guessed you would go to office early."

"I guess you know a lot about me." I said raising one of my eyebrows looking at him in a suspicious manner.

"Why guess? I can tell you." He came closer to me. His hands surrounding me, making it unable to escape.

I flustered, my ears went red.
He had a teasing smile on his face and I couldn't take my eyes off of him.

My heart started beating crazily, as I could feel his presence lingering over me.

I couldn't avoid it.
It had struck me.
The unusual feeling had started growing on me and I wasn't prepared for that.

I wasn't ready to fall for him but it was happening and I couldn't deny it.

"What? I don't need you to tell me." I pushed his hand away and turned to the other side.

"Then, why are you blushing?" he whispered right into my ears. He was teasing me.

"I'm not."

"Then, why are your ears red?"

"It is hot."

"Dia, the sun is still rising."

"I mean.. I am hot from all that jogging."

"Oh, okay... I will take that." He nodded in agreement.

"Anyways, when are you leaving for office today?" he asked me.

"Probably around 7:15, why?" I turned to his side

"I will take you today. Let's meet here at 7:15."

"Really? Don't need to bother yourself. I can ride my active like everyday." I refused his offer, but deep inside, I wanted to sit on his badboy so much.

"You are not getting any option today, you are coming with me."

"Fine."

"All the best, you are going to do well. Just don't worry and if you fumble, look at me. It is going to be hard but trust yourself. Remember all the efforts you have been putting since a month, all the overtime, is going to pay off so don't disappoint yourself. Find your inner strength and fight that damn stage fear. I will be right behind you."

For the first time, I felt like taking a step forward without worrying about the consequences. I felt for once, that I would not have to clean the mess alone.

Someone was there for me.
Waiting for me.

His words were comforting and encouraging at the same time. It felt like his words were guiding me through darkness, leading me towards light.
He held my hand in his and looked straight into my eyes.
His eyes were sparkling. I could see his young and free spirit in his eyes.

"Yes, I will remember this. But, right now I think we should leave, otherwise we will be late." I couldn't bear to leave his hand.

"Yeah, let's meet here at 7:15."

Our hands parted.
I turned around.

"Akash!" I screamed.

"Yes?" he turned around.

"Thank you."

He smiled and we both went our ways.

I reached home, took a bath and my mom fed me curd as it is considered good luck. I prayed and left for garden. Around 7:20, I reached there. He wasn't there yet so I waited.

7:30, I called him, he didn't pick up.

7:40, he still hadn't arrived yet.

Did something happen to him?
He has never gone back on his words.

As I was about to leave, a car passed from right besides me. I just glanced once and it drove off. I couldn't see properly but I think I saw him.

It was definitely Akash inside the car, I saw him.

He was with a girl.
Maybe, I got it wrong.
No, it was Akash with another girl.

But why? Why would he do this?

On my big day, promise me to pick me up and then drive past me with some other girl?

I knew it was too good to be true with him.

All those words he said, did he ever mean them?

Was it all a joke to him? Even my big day? Even the biggest client? All my
efforts? All that we had?

Tears started dripping, my face went red, eyes red.

"Dia, take a grip. Today's a big day. You can't fall like this. You can't ruin it." said my inner voice and I picked myself up.

I took a taxi and forced my tears to stop.
