Pocket Monsters-known to the world as Pokémon.

They are mysterious creatures, each carrying supernatural powers-some breathing fire, others summoning lightning, and some even capable of warping time and space itself. Yet, for all their might and wonder, they have lived side by side with humans since time immemorial.

It is a world where Pokémon and humans do not merely coexist, but depend upon each other in the most intimate, intricate ways. From partners in daily life to allies in battle, the bond between trainer and Pokémon is a sacred rhythm that pulses at the heart of every region.

And this... this is Alola.

A sun-kissed paradise of islands where the air is warm and salted by the sea, where ancient traditions breathe through the palms and volcanoes, and where Pokémon take on forms unlike anywhere else.

Alola-the crown jewel of natural harmony.

And today, that harmony is about to get a little louder.

"ALOOOOOLAAAAAA!!!"

The word echoed across the sparkling marble floor of Alola's International Airport, carried by the exuberant lungs of a green messy haired girl with very big energy.

Heads turned. A flock of Pidgey took off from the rafters. One Machamp working security visibly flinched.

Standing at the center of the chaos was agirl in a leaf-green skirtini, her arms thrown wide like she was embracing the entire region at once. Her oversized shirt flapped behind her like a lab coat caught in a breeze. Her round glasses caught the reflection of the sun pouring in through the skylights, and behind them sparkled two brilliant green eyes that seemed lit from within.

Behind her, sighing heavily and dragging a duffel bag almost as large as Kristin herself, was a boy. Tall, pale as moonlight, with silver hair tousled by the warm trade winds. His sharp violet eyes were half-lidded with the kind of patience one can only develop after years of managing a girlfriend with no volume control.

"You're gonna scare everyone in the airport, Kristin," he muttered as he approached her side. His voice was calm, low, almost bored-though the corner of his mouth tugged slightly, betraying the flicker of a smile.

Kristin spun to face him, her excitement somehow doubling as she marched backward toward the exit, hands flailing with dramatic fervor.

"Come on, Mikey! How can I not scream?! We're in Alola! The best region in the Pokémon world! There's so much to explore! So many regional forms! I mean, ALOLAN NINETALES, Mikey! And the Totem Pokémon! And Kahuna battles! AND THE RUINS! Do you even know how many ancient texts and folklore are preserved in the island shrines?! This is my first field mission as a licensed Pokémon researcher! This is-this is everything!"

All of that came out in one breath.

Even the Rowlet perched atop a tourist's hat gave her a slow blink of impressed awe.

Mikey stepped beside her, his shadow falling across her like a gentle reminder of reality.

"You said the same thing in Unova," he said, his voice laced with that familiar smugness, "and then spent three hours crying in the Relic Castle because a Sandile sneezed on your notebook."

Kristin's pout could have melted a Glalie. "That was sacred ancient Unovan sand, Mikey," she sniffed indignantly. "And just because you're the Champion of Gaia and my boyfriend doesn't make you smarter than me. Understanding Pokémon emotions isn't enough. You have to understand their natural behaviors, too."
