"No, not for this match. Aggie got me a seat next to her family..." I said, I kept staring down at the ticket on my phone.
"Her family huh..." Naomi said. "Have you met them before?" She asked afterwards.
"Nope. And I'm not even gonna pretend like I'm not shitting myself about it..." I glanced at Naomi as I kept walking.
"You'll be alright, you're a good girl." Naomi tried to reassure me, it worked for a little bit but not for long.
~
FEW HOURS LATER
I was occasionally texting Naomi throughout the match, I was so nervous, not only to watch them play but to meet her parents. I don't know if it was good or bad but they didn't say anything once I sat down next to them. I did come in late, only five minutes though. I was hoping that they just didn't acknowledge me because the match was already starting.
Once the whistle blew, I could see the disappointment on all of England's fans faces. I turned to glance over at Aggie's mom, she gave me a disappointed smile. At least it was a smile. I knew it was Aggie's mom, they shared the same eyes.
"I'm sorry, are you Y/n?" She leaned over to ask me.
"Yes...I am." I smiled and nodded.
"Oh darling- I'm sorry, we were too busy watching..." She reached her hand out to me, I smiled and shook her hand. "I'm Aggie's mum, this is her dad." She turned to Aggie's dad. "This is Y/n. Aggie's friend."
Her dad smiled at me and gave me a quick little wave, I returned the wave and looked back at her mom.
"Aggie told us this was your first euros." She said.
"Yeah, it's my first time coming to the tournament." I nodded and looked around.
"Sorry you had to watch the girls lose...I was confident they were gonna win if I'm being honest." She looked out onto the pitch. We were up close, maybe 2 or 3 rows from the metal barrier.
"They started playing really good towards the end." I said, I didn't know what that was supposed to do. "I think france was the toughest out of the three." I said.
"Yeah, you're right. I think they'll do a bit better against the netherlands." Heer mum said. I smiled and nodded to agree with her, I looked out onto the pitch. I could see the white shirts comforting one another. I was new to this tournament but losing your first match wasn't what you wanted to do.
Especially if you did so well previously.
My heart stopped for a little, I saw Aggie walking over to the metal barrier. At first I thought she was maybe giving her shirt away but she didn't. She kept walking until she reached the security guard. I swallowed hard and looked down at my phone.
We hadn't seen each other in about 2 weeks, once she left for pre camp, she put me aside and focused on getting ready. I didn't take it personally, this was important to them all. We texted a few times throughout the weeks. This was the first time that I was seeing her in person.
I kept looking straight, trying to act normal, out of the corner of my eye I saw Aggie's mom stand up. I glanced over at them as they hugged. Both of her parents stood up and gave her a hug, they spoke for a few seconds. I sat there in my seat, looking at them. Part of me expected her to maybe smile at me, or give me a quick wave...but she didn't.
