I stayed in his bed.
I let him hold me.
I let him kiss my shoulder like he hadn’t destroyed it.
I let him call me angel like it still meant anything.
But inside?
I was fire.
Because now I knew:
Lucien Virello could break bones, burn skin, steal freedom…
But he couldn’t handle silence.
He watched me constantly now.
Bringing me tea. Unlocking doors.
Even letting me walk outside again.
Not because he trusted me.
Because he was scared I’d already left him in my mind.
---
That night, I asked for a knife.
He blinked. “Why?”
> “To cut flowers,” I lied. “You like the roses, don’t you?”
He hesitated. Then handed it to me.
That’s when I knew:
The man who once threatened to chain me to a wall…
was now giving me blades.
---
Later, I stood on the balcony, moonlight cutting silver across my skin.
Lucien joined me. Hands behind his back like he was holding back the worst parts of himself.
> “You’ve been different,” he said.
“Better?”
> “Scarier.”
I smiled. “Good.”
He looked away.
> “I don’t know what to do with you anymore.”
I turned to him.
> “Then let me show you.”
I stepped into him, slid my arms around his neck. His body tensed like he thought I might stab him.
Instead, I kissed him.
Slow. Deep. Dangerous.
> “Do you trust me now?” I whispered.
> “More than I trust myself.”
Perfect.
He didn’t see the hidden burner phone I’d lifted off his desk earlier that day.
Didn’t know I’d already messaged Cian.
> “Midnight. Be ready.”
Lucien may have taught me fear.
But I would teach them both what happens when the girl stops surviving… and starts plotting.
