I hadn't been single in a long time. fresh out of a three-year mess of a relationship, I was still learning how to breathe on my own again. my ex had a way of making everything feel like my fault. the gaslighting, the jealousy, the emotional exhaustion—I was over it. done. but the quiet after leaving him was loud in its own way.
alexis, my roommate, knew this. "he wasn't shit anyway," she'd muttered over iced coffee. "you need to get laid. I know a guy—super chill. hot. down." or so she thought..
"we're going to a party tonight, you just need a good night with someone hot." alexis came into my room saying. "what happened to that guy you were trying to set me up with?" I ask her curiously.
"i tried," she sighed. "didn't work. guy was weird. but forget about that, we're going to a party tonight and you're wearing this." she tossed a tiny black dress on the bed.
I didn't argue. i needed to stop replaying the same five fights in my head. the idea of being touched by someone who didn't make me feel small... that sounded kinda nice.
the party was already loud when we walked in. half the people were dancing, the other half pretending they weren't drunk yet. I stuck close to alexis until her boyfriend, josh, showed up and dragged her off. great.
I made my way to the kitchen, poured myself something strong, and tried not to overthink it. that was the whole point. no expectations. just be here.
I was mid-sip when someone bumped into me. tall, curly blonde hair, tattoos that peeked from under his sleeve. he smiled like he recognized me. "you're alexis's friend, right?"
"yeah," I said. "and you are?"
"vinnie."
i'd heard his name before — mostly from alexis and josh. apparently hot, chill, and single. check, check, and... check.
"you always hanging out in kitchens?" he teased.
"just trying to survive the crowd," i smiled. "and the music."
he laughed. "wanna step out for a sec? it's quieter out back."
we didn't stay outside long. just enough to swap a few jokes, some flirty eye contact, and an unspoken kind of curiosity. he was easy to talk to, which surprised me. and he smelled really good — like something clean but a little dangerous. I was hyperaware of how close he was standing.
but then people came out, and it got loud again, and we drifted apart in the shuffle. I found alexis near the speakers, took a few more drinks, danced a little, laughed harder than I had in weeks. I felt bold. warm. untouchable.
somehow I ran into vinnie again in the hallway, just outside the bathroom. we looked at each other for a second too long.
"hey," i said, breathless from dancing.
"hey," he said back, looking me up and down. "god, you look fucking hot."
my face got hot, but not in the embarrassed way. I didn't say anything. I just leaned in and kissed him.
he kissed back immediately — hot and open and kind of desperate. hands on my waist, my fingers in his curls, the hallway fading around us.
"wanna go somewhere?" he asked, voice low.
i nodded.
he led me upstairs, to some random room in the house, dim light spilling through a cracked door. hoodie tossed over a chair, bed messy, faint smell of cedar.
he door clicked shut behind us and suddenly the party noise was muffled, replaced by just the two of us.
he didn't waste a second. his hands slid onto my hips, pulling me against him, and i could feel his heartbeat racing just like mine.
"you want this?" he asked, voice low, breath hot on my neck.
i nodded, barely able to speak. "fuck yeah."
his lips crushed down on mine, fierce and hungry. i let my hands tangle in his curls, pulling him closer as his body pressed hard against mine. the heat between us was electric — like a fuse lit and about to blow.
he started undoing my dress zipper, rougher now, and i barely stopped him. the dress slipped down, falling around my ankles, and his hands roamed over my bare skin, memorizing every inch. no gentleness here, just raw need.
he peeled his shirt off, tattoos gleaming under the dim light, and i traced a finger down his toned chest, my pulse pounding in my ears.
then he tackled the bra clasp, yanking it free, and god, the way he looked at me. my ex barely looked up from his phone during sex. vinnie looked at me like i was the only thing he wanted to see.
he pushed me onto the bed, hands on my thighs, his hands moved up to my core. fingers spreading me open with no hesitation. he rubs my clit slowly, the first touch was sharp and demanding, making me arch into him.
he continues this till i'm dripping wet and then gets off of the bed to remove his pants. as his jeans drop to the ground so does my jaw. he's so much bigger than my ex.
he doesn't waste time and hurry's to get back onto the bed.
when he finally slid inside me, it was slow, deliberate, giving me just enough time to adjust but not so much that the tension fizzled out. every inch of him was overwhelming — bigger, harder, way more than i'd been used to.
"fuck," i whispered, the difference impossible to ignore.
he chuckled, deep and low. "told you i'm not average."
he started moving then, steady and intense, pounding into me with a hunger that made my head spin. like alexis said I needed a good hard fuck. my nails dug into his back as he leaned down, biting at my collarbone, his breath ragged.
"you okay?" he asked once, voice rough.
"never better," i said, voice shaking.
our bodies slammed together in a rhythm that only made me ache more, and when i came, it was sharp, hot, and sudden. he followed seconds after, moaning my name into the crook of my neck.
we collapsed together, breathless and tangled, not quite ready to let go but knowing this was just one night.
he rolled off me, pulling on his jeans without a word, but his hand brushed my hair gently as he stood.
"thanks," i said, voice still breathy.
"anytime," he said with a smirk.
i sat up, pulling his hoodie over my shoulders — an unspoken token, maybe a memory.
he leaned in close, voice low. "if you wanna do this again, you know where to find me."
i smiled, "maybe," i said, biting my lip.
and then i left, walking back downstairs, back into the party noise — feeling more alive than i had in months.
