Teacher: "Demons have always hunted in the human world. We took human souls to strengthen our King. But then, the hunters showed up. They used their gifts, their voices, to drive us away. They sang songs to ridicule our kind! They—"
Iris: "Is that actually true? How can violent songs be powerful?" 'Well, powerful on the defensive side at least.'
Teacher: *sigh* "Of course it's true. They only saw what they wanted to see of us. They hated us, and believed that we were horrible."
Iris: "But, what about the stolen souls? Weren't they just defending their own kind?"
Teacher: "No, if anything, they were worse than any other being in existence! The hunters used their voices to steal pieces of the souls of their own people in order to make a barrier against us. They created the Honmoon. Currently, there are still weak points and cracks in the barrier that some demons are capable of getting through, but it is difficult and it completely blocks the King from involving himself in the human world. That horrible barrier..."
The teacher continued on, but I wasn't listening anymore. I'd already heard this story so many times before, but no matter how many times I've heard it, it just doesn't seem right. It's obvious that this is what all of the other demons believe, but I don't believe it's the actual truth. Somewhere along the way, the true history must have gotten twisted. The real question is if it was because that's what demons wanted to believe or if someone twisted history on purpose.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when the teacher clapped.
Teacher: "Well, that's all for today. Continue your training. I will see you next month, Kurohime."
Iris: "Yes teacher. See you next month." 'Stupid title.' I nodded at him in dismissal as plans began to run through my head. 'Finally, classes are over. I wonder where I should go this time?' Suddenly, there was a loud shout from outside. I glanced out the window to see my father, yet again, yelling at a poor demon who was unable to defeat the current generation's hunters.
His furious flames and voice were easy to see and hear even from so far away. The pupils of my purpleish blue eyes sharpened into slits as I looked closer to see who he was yelling at this time. The poor demon's markings were glowing red as he held them in place with his control.
Gwi-Ma: "—Weak! Pathetic! Useless! All of you!"
I watched as his control slipped, and he incinerated the demon in a purple fire. I closed and sealed the window shut, hoping that I wouldn't have to hear anymore. It was always the same old thing down here. Father sends some demons to destroy the hunters and the Honmoon, then they die and are resurrected back to the demon world and he gets all pissy at everyone.
Iris: "Better them than me, I guess." I mumbled. A large, fiery purple orb flew into my room, and I realized that I had spoken too soon.
Gwi-Ma: "Kurohime, my child! How are you?"
Iris: 'Better without your fake familial affection and that stupid title name.' I held myself back from rolling my eyes. "Fine. I heard they failed again?" I inquired to get the attention off of me. The orb of fire growled in frustration as the flames grew higher for a moment, singeing the ceiling for the 4th time this week.
Gwi-Ma: "Those imbeciles don't know how to do ANYTHING right!" The singeing grew.
Iris: 'Well maybe they would if you actually taught them decent skills instead of just expecting them to learn on their own. Where do you think they're going to find decent books on fighting? We're in Jiok (Hell) for crying out loud!' I twirled my ink brush back-and-forth in between my fingers.
