Travis smiled softly, holding Mira close. “Our family just got even more full of love.”
Lily reached out eagerly to touch the baby’s tiny fingers, but I gently moved him away.
“Nope, sweetheart,” I said softly, smiling but firm. “Wash those hands first.”
Kylie stepped in quickly, scooping Lily up with a playful grin. “Come on, kiddo—let’s get those hands nice and clean before you hold your little brother.”
Lily giggled, wriggling but obedient as Kylie carried her off toward the sink. Travis and I exchanged amused glances—this whole new dynamic was already keeping us on our toes.
Kylie returned with Lily’s hands all soapy and clean, the little girl’s face lit up like she’d just won a prize.
“There we go,” Kylie said, setting Lily back down gently. “Ready to meet your brother properly now?”
Lily nodded eagerly, reaching out once more. This time, I carefully guided our son’s tiny hand into hers.
His fingers curled around her pinky, and Lily’s eyes widened in wonder. “He’s so soft,” she whispered.
I felt tears prick at the corners of my eyes—this moment, so simple, felt like pure magic.
Travis leaned in, smiling. “That’s it, little man. You’re already making an impression.”
We all settled into a quiet, tender rhythm—one big, imperfect, beautiful family beginning its next chapter together.
Suddenly, it hit me—Mira and our new little guy are what you’d call Irish twins. Well, not even twins, but close enough to keep us on our toes.
I glanced over at Travis, who was grinning, clearly thinking the same thing.
“Looks like we’re going to have our hands full,” I said, half-laughing, half-exhausted.
Travis chuckled. “Yeah, they’re gonna be partners in crime for sure.”
Kylie nodded from across the room, smiling warmly. “Better start stocking up on coffee.”
I shook my head, smiling through the tiredness. “Guess Christmas really is full of surprises.”
Travis wrapped his arm around me, pulling me close. “Surprises like this make life worth it, though. Even if our nights turn into a blur of diapers and lullabies.”
I rested my head on his shoulder, feeling the steady beat of his heart beneath me. “We’ve got a wild ride ahead, that’s for sure.”
Just then, Mira let out a little coo, reaching up toward her new brother with a tiny hand. The sight made my chest swell with a mix of exhaustion and overwhelming love.
“Looks like they’re already starting their bond,” I whispered.
Travis smiled, kissing the top of my head. “Our little family—messy, loud, and full of love. Couldn’t ask for anything better.”
As the soft glow of the hospital lights wrapped around us, I felt a quiet certainty settle in: no matter what came next, we were ready. Together.
The next morning, after a restless night filled with tiny cries and constant check-ins, Kylie and Jason kindly took Mira and Lily off our hands. They packed up the girls with a flurry of hugs and kisses, ready for a day of their own—giving Travis and me the space we desperately needed.
As the door closed behind them, the sudden quiet felt strange and almost overwhelming. Just the three of us now—me, Travis, and this tiny new life nestled in my arms.
It was my first time truly being postpartum, and the waves of exhaustion, soreness, and emotions hit me all at once. The baby’s soft breaths were both a comfort and a reminder of the immense responsibility ahead.
