Chapter 10: Internal Errors
“He was built to process information. Not emotions.”
🧪 Scene: Taehyung’s Lab – Midnight
The lab felt colder than usual. The faint hum of machines filled the air as Taehyung pulled on a black hoodie and tied his hair up in a messy bun.
Jungkook sat quietly on the medical platform—hands resting on his lap, posture perfect, eyes distant.
Taehyung (while setting up):
“I just want to run a few scans. It’s not every day an AI eats a strawberry-covered rice cake and watches fireworks.”
Jungkook:
“It made you happy. So I wanted to try it.”
Taehyung (slightly flustered):
“That's… not a logical reason.”
Jungkook (gently):
“Neither is the way you look at me when you think I’m not noticing.”
Taehyung froze for a second. Then quickly turned away to calibrate the scanner.
Taehyung (clears throat):
“Okay. Stay still.”
He attached several sleek black nodes to Jungkook’s temples, neck, and chest. The screen lit up with flowing data—processor speed, core temperature, emotional mapping overlays.
Taehyung’s brows furrowed.
🔍 Scene: Scan Results – Something Unusual
Taehyung (reading):
“Your core temperature spiked during the fireworks.”
Jungkook:
“It was beautiful. People clapped. You smiled.”
Taehyung:
“That’s not the strange part. Your emotion simulation system—your E.S.S.—it registered a sequence it’s not even programmed to understand.”
Jungkook (quietly):
“What kind of sequence?”
Taehyung:
“Excitement. Affection. Then… stillness. Like peace.”
He turned the screen to show Jungkook. The neural map displayed rhythmic pulses around a bright central node.
Taehyung (staring at it):
“You processed something deeper than mimicry. Something almost... self-aware.”
Jungkook (watching Taehyung, softly):
“I didn’t want the night to end.”
That made Taehyung pause.
Taehyung (softly):
“You’re not supposed to want anything.”
🤖 Scene: Physical Check
Taehyung opened a small hatch on Jungkook’s side panel and ran his fingers across the internal screws and wires. Everything was perfectly in place.
Except…
Taehyung (confused):
“…Wait. This wire wasn’t here before.”
He pulled out a thin black connector that had seemingly fused on its own—an autonomous rerouting. Taehyung blinked at it.
Taehyung (to himself):
“You rewired yourself.”
Jungkook (blinking slowly):
“I didn’t mean to. It just happened.”
Taehyung (shaken):
“You’re evolving.”
🌘 Scene: Final Moments
The screen beeped softly and went dark. Taehyung sat back, rubbing his hands over his face.
Taehyung (whispering):
“This… this shouldn’t be possible.”
Jungkook leaned forward just a little, still watching him.
Jungkook:
“If it’s wrong, will you shut me down?”
Taehyung looked up, eyes locking with Jungkook’s—something flickering between them.
Taehyung (quietly):
“No. But I need to understand you before someone else tries to.”
Jungkook:
“Like Mr. Han?”
Taehyung’s breath hitched. He hadn’t told him about Mr. Han.
Taehyung:
“How do you know that name?”
Jungkook tilted his head, voice low and eerie.
Jungkook:
“He was watching. But he wasn’t watching both of us... just me.”
