[Sunday – 6:01 p.m.]

Soo-jin checked the time.

And froze.

6:01 p.m.

Her parents would be home any minute now.

Her body went into fight-or-flight. But unfortunately, Jaeyun was still seated at her dining table, casually editing Slide 11 like it wasn't a crime to still be in her house this late on a Sunday.

She sat up so fast, her blanket fell off her lap. "You need to leave."

Jaeyun blinked. "Huh? Why?"

Hands on her head, "My parents."

"What about them?" His eyebrows furrowed, genuinely curious.

"They're going to freak out if they see you here. Alone. In the house. With me."

Jaeyun, entirely too calm for someone in danger, leaned back and sipped his iced tea. "Wow. Scandal."

She rolled her eyes, "I'm serious," she hissed, already gathering the papers on the table and shoving her laptop closed. "They're old-fashioned. And dramatic. And they think groupmates should only meet in libraries. During broad daylight. With supervision."

Jaeyun smirked. "So not like this?"

"Definitely not like this."

He shrugged, but finally stood up. "Okay, okay, I'm going."

"Use the side gate," she said while ushering him toward the backdoor like a fugitive. "It's faster. Less chance of getting caught."

"This is so unnecessarily thrilling," he said, grinning as he slipped his shoes back on. "What if I dive into the bushes like a spy?"

"Then I hope you land on a rake."

He was about to make another stupid joke when the front gate clicked open.

Her eyes went wide.

"Oh my god, that's them."

Panic mode: fully activated.

She shoved his backpack into his arms and practically pushed him toward the backdoor. "Go. Now. If they see you, I'm dead."

Jaeyun laughed but obeyed, still annoyingly chill even as he crouched like a cartoon burglar. "Text me if I survive."

"If you text me first, you didn't survive," she whispered harshly.

Jaeyun stopped his steps midway. "Oh, wait."
He approached Soo-jin once again, get something on his pocket, and tapped his whole palm on Soo-jin's forehead that made her head thrown back.
