kang haewon walked through the streets of her new district. she was decided to make a good place out of her new school. as she walked through the entrance, she was greeted with a teacher already waiting for her.
"are you kang haewon?" "yes ma'am." "i understand you've been going through a tough time this year. there's always a psychology department ready for you to use." "sure... thanks?" haewon hesitated, but eventually followed her steps.
as she walked through the halls of the school, she kept seeing girls with a more... exotic kind of look. she got death stares from some of them, kind smiles from mostly no one and a wink from one.
"sit down, i'm here now!" the teacher animatedly said and haewon was left to stand beside her. "introduce yourself please." "i'm kang haewon. i come from seoul." the girls nodded and the class started.
"are there hotter guys on seoul than here?" was the first thing a redheaded beside her asked. "what?" "you know, are guys hotter on seoul?" she asked. "i think you guys have about the same amount of hot guys." "so i'm not missing out?" "girl i don't think seoul is even that far." "well if you say so."
a minute passed, the teacher explaining some morning announcements. "i'm cami." "nice to meet you cami." "same goes to you haewon." she said as she smiled.
recess time.
"so you like twinks it's what i'm understanding?" haewon ask. "they're not twinks. they just look sweeter than the average man." cami said. they were sitting in the back of the bleachers.
"oh, i'm sure." "cigarette?" cami asked as she handed one out to haewon. "uh... sure why not?" she took it and blew a puff. she immediately started coughing. cami chuckled. "you'll get used to it." haewon kept blowing smoke when another girl approached them.
"haewon, meet isa. she's my other friend." "so it's just you two against the rest?" "pretty much if you think about it." isa said. "great i'm the new girl and now i won't talk to anyone." "trust me, there's just so much people you should want to talk to." isa kept going.
"if you say so."
as school was finished, haewon had one mission. bumping into yeon sieun. she was determined, except she had two smokers trailing behind her, being not so subtle.
"i'm determined to find this guy." she said. "so you transferred just to bump into this guy?" "don't question me. we have a troubled past." "oh my... star crossed lovers. i'm into that." cami gushed. "we're not lovers. i just hid something really bad from him, and i haven't encountered him ever since."
"you know, you could've just drove here instead of doing all of this." "there were other factors involved, you know." "so you are in love with the guy." "no... i jus-" haewon faltered in her tracks when she saw him.
"sieun..." "oh hell no girl. that's yeon sieun. i'm not messing with that psycho." "that's the problem, you all think he is messed up, but in reality you guys know nothing."
"you know what's up with him?" isa said. "he killed a guy." cami said. "no he didn't. i was the one who was there, sieun wasn't even present. and suho... he's not dead he's on a coma."
"he's your friend?" isa asked. "yeah, he was..." "i trust you seoul. we're reaching that guy." isa said and put a hand on her shoulder as in solidarity. "she's right, let's make you bump into him." cami said and they started walking.
the three girls trailed behind sieun, they were determined, but the closer they got to him, the more haewon slowed her pace until she stopped and the girls turned back.
"what's up?" "i can't. i'm scared. i'm not ready." "we don't have to go then." cami said and they turned around. isa invited them for ramen and that's when they finally sat down.
haewon explained everything. every little detail. every small story. she talked about that cute friend group she was once a part of. "i'm so sorry haewon, you guys sounded like something great." cami comforted. "yeah, you and that guy beomseok. that man was toxic as hell. but at some point it made sense." isa said.
"you're already doing better here in eunjang. you'll see, you'll forget about him in no time." "thanks, i really needed this." "i'll pay." isa said. "i should probably get going." haewon said. "but we were just getting started." "i'm sorry, i have a thing with my family." "well, we'll see you tomorrow." "i'll catch you guys later."
haewon went out of the ramen place. it was already sundown. she walked through the busy streets as she hoped to bump into someone familiar, after all this place and her had history.
and she did, except it was not someone she wanted to see. it was the guy that she hated, not compared to beomseok, but he was up there. it was really him, and they bumped straight in front of each other.
"kang haewon." his voice was deeper than before, and he had grown taller. "na baekjin."
"you're still following me around?" he asked, smirking. "oh you'd die for that sentence to be true."
"didn't expect to see you here. i thought seoul had higher standards." "yeah, well even garbage is recycled." baekjin scoffed. "still got that mouth on you?" "still got that face on you?" she shot back.
"you know you talk a lot for someone who ends up chasing after the same mess she says she's done with." he said. "says the guys who can't go 5 seconds without somebody reassuring him he matters."
"you'll be back, you always are." "keep dreaming, you've got better at it." haewon said and with that she turned around and left.
